Would these wheels be used more as a rear wheel or could they be used all around? WOuld a 17x8 +35 F/ 17x9 +20 R setup work? SPL is really pulling through here....nice.

Would the 17*8 w/ 35 offset front and 17*9 w/20 offset rear clear coilovers? The fronts seem like they would be kinda tight.

I guess you'd want to opt for +20 all around then.

17x8 +35 won't

17x9 +20 will clear the KTS's

The 17x8 +35 cleared my D2 coilovers. Although it is really tight. Hmm I wish I had the cash to replace all 4 of my 17x8 with 17x9.

What would you run 245/45? 255/40? That is assuming I can scrounge up enough cash, or get enough out of mine for it.

Nismo_Freak : No offense but I called spl parts and they said you don't work/represent them anymore. I was thinking about buy the rims for 199 shipped and they said it cost that plus 8 for shipping. I just checked the website and now the wheels are listed at 209 plus shipping. Whats up??

1. I left SPL a few months back but I still post about new stuff.

2. It was my idea to produce these wheels

3. I was not aware of the increase in shipping cost.

4. $199 was an introductory pricing, please read my post as I mention it is good only until a certain date.

damn, I feel some hostility in those posts. Sorry I missed the date on the post but the person I talked to said it was never 199 shipped. I was just wondering what was up w/ the deal?? The price is still not bad.

I took the info off the website... evidently it was $199 + shipping.

Dunno.

Wow! That is very good for being so inexpensive. Do you by chance know the weight on the the 17x8's?

I guess I'm wondering how hardcore of a stagger you guys would suggest. I'm obviously very new to all this RWD chassis/suspension setup. I definitely will be getting coilovers before I get rims so I need the fronts to clear for sure. Will a 17x8 with 235 do well up front when matched to a 17x9 255? Will that just be understeer city?

That is a pretty common setup that many ppl seem to like. However, being able to rotate is nice too. 17x9 with 245/40 all around would look cool and save you money from rotation, but might be a little oversteer happy on s14 (orion had too much oversteer at road course speeds with this setup). Then again, oversteer and understeer can be tweaked using sway bars, dampers, spring rates, etc. 245s are hard to fit in front too.

You can always run the 235/255 setup and just run a front splitter of some sort.

That would help keep the understeer to a minimum at speed.

Thanks for the advice guys. Now I just need to decide on coilovers.

NismoFreak, are there any splitters produced that work with the stock pignose? I imagine the OEM style front lip does nothing in the way of downforce as its so flimsy. Then I guess I'd ask, are there any splitters produced that fit well with the JDM S13 front end?

You can buy all your high performance splitter needs at your local Home Depot.

I really hate to derail the thread from kick-arse wheels to Home Depot lips, but don't you need an existing oem lip to install the HD lip? Also, do you honestly believe that the HD will create the amount of downforce needed to overcome understeer from bigger tires?

Btw....17x9 +20 wheels are the SHIZBUM! (so I don't completely hijack)

I'm not talking about garden trim I'm talking about building an actual splitter/defuser tray out of sheet metal / "natural composite".

I was talking more along the lines of CF front lip/splitter combo. Anything like that produced?

How do you edit these posts? I wanted to add this to the previous post.

So the offset on the 17x8 is +35 and the rear is +20? So will the two match up well?

Not really, the 9" wheel will stick out 27 mm more...that's over an inch. The rears will be very flush and the front will be sunken. Whether that matters or not is up to you.
