174K miles on your Versa?

EDIT: I can sell you a new high-flow cat for around $150.

OK, we're gonna need pics and a writeup on THAT. I want to do an article on it.

I'm pretty sure that's the highest mileage Versa in existence!

Argh! Would be a cool writeup.

OK, well a least don't drop $800 on a cat. And if you don't order one from me, hit up some local muffler shops and check their prices.

A name-brand cat should be under $200, and the labor to weld it in isn't bad.

Yeah I am thinking of just doing a single cat in stead of dual cats. just need to move the 02 sensor.

Wow that is a lot of miles.

I also have a slightly used weld in 2.5" Catco high flow cat I need to get rid of really cheap if you find you can use it.

well looks like i am gonna have topay the 800 for the factory cats. the muffl;er shop i use wont be able to do it because of how close the first cat is to the connection point. this sucks

Should be able to weld on a flange to connect. But would have to find the flange (or use the stock one possibly).

Are you sure the cat is bad though? Could it be a bad O2 sensor or something that would cause the ECU to think the cat is bad?

Junkyard won't sell a used cat, it's a violation of federal law IIRC.

The shop you went to is full of crap. A catalytic converter can be placed anywhere in the general area... They could unbolt the exhaust, cut out the old one, weld in a new one, and bolt your system back up.

I have now had 2 shops tell me that cant weld universal ones on because of the angle and size of the first cat. I dont now if they are full of it or just dont want to touch a 3 year old car.

at some point, you are best off taking your car to the dealer after wasting all of this time.

A little off topic, but that is amazing you're almost at 200,000 miles already. So to clarify, this is NOT a CVT but the conventional automatic transmission? Please let us know.

Yes this is the convential auto transmission. Fluid changed every 30k with synthetic oil. Oil changes also using synthetic every 7k to 10k miles I have done one brake job fronts at 96k rears at 146k and plugs at 100k. Been through 4 sets of tires. And found the cheapest place for an air filter is the dealer. go figure

Lol dude you are a legend i am going to follow this advice on my brand new Tiida, have you serviced at a dealer all the time? whats your average MPG for the auto?. Although AFAIK Your cat shouldnt die unless you have done some serious kilometers (like 300,000 miles) im so glad that i got the conventional automatic, The CVT technology is too new and has not been tested for the long haul and i also prefer shift shock. . I know i'm missing on fuel economy but i just prefer the 4 speed auto, Pity Nissan cant use a 5 speed auto like Honda. then the economy would be even closer to the 6 speed manual. I'M GONNA MISS MY 6 SPEED

No trips to dealer for any service. I do my own work. My average mpg righ now is about 24 down from 28. I need a serious tune though. ON a side not the check engine light has gone off and been off for 4 days.

hmm it could be the o2 sensor after the cat malfunctioning (if the versa has one) because alot of n16 pulsars in australia have this problem. The pulsar is the model that got replaced by the versa (here we call it the Tiida).

p.s Nissan may be lying to you about the cat dying. Nissan Dealers are a massive ripoff here. $500 for a 40,000 km service. Thats about 24,000 miles for you guys. I told them to stuff myself a mate of mine that is an ex Nissan mechanic will do it for me for $50 labor + parts needed.
