Most AWD/4WD vehicles have open differentials including the Rogue. On a slick surface you are actually only getting power to one of the front tire and one of the rear tires, not all 4. Granted the Rogue does have traction control and a limited slip system which brakes the spinning drive wheel (sort of like a limited slip differential), but this is only effective to a point.

Drove my wife's '10 Rogue 360 AWD with snow tires for 8 hours through a heavy snow storm while heading on vacation. Handled it great, but again, snow tires are key.

I live in MN and deliver pizza for a living. I can tell you that the Rogue with AWD is just amazing after driving in the middle of plenty of snow storms on roads and up driveways that are not plowed. Yes I will agree with everyone that AWD/4WD does not help one bit for stopping when slipping. The AWD gives you that little bit of added traction to keep moving and keep from getting stuck. I still have the stock tires on it but am thinking of getting a set of winter tires for next winter so see if there really is that much of a difference. People with winter tires swear there is. My wife and I took our Rogue out to my parents house after one of the more nasty snow storms this year. My parents live out in the country where things are not plowed very well. We made it just fine through 2+ foot snow drifts covering the road. Yes we did have to slow down which is what any sane person would do with ice and snow, but we made it just fine unlike other vehicles without AWD that we saw that could not even get going. We saw plenty of FWD and RWD SUV's and trucks that got stuck.
