Hey Gang,

I don't know if this has been posted, I got an e-mail from Borla today that there system is now available. It is part # 11762 and shows to be right at a grand.

Yeah it does seem expensive for just a axle back. The exterior design looks similar to the Tanabe axle back.

At least were getting more varieties of exhaust to choose from.

At $1K, it has to be a cat-back. If not, that would be the biggest rip-off in Altima history!

According to him its just the axle back. Maybe they accidentally put the wrong price.

I sure hope so because nobody in their right mind would pay that price!

Also, this exhaust is only for the A/C, not the Sedan (since this is the Coupe / Sedan forum and yes, there are people here with Sedans )

And what's up with performance part makers not releasing some specs with their products? How about some dyno charts? Or an actual installation image and not some render or a photo of the tip of the exhaust?

In that price class people want to know what they are getting, you would really expect that manufacturers do their homework a little better. Just my two cents

Damn, not only is it only for the 3.5 which leaves me assed out... but it's also 1,000... which would be a big hell no for me.

Looks like Stillen it is.

Depending on how big my tax rebate is... will dictate whether it will be the cat back or axle back.

I'd rather use that $1K for a Stillen cat-back and a set of Eibach's. I'm just still in shock by the price of a axle-back

buying a an axleback imo is pointless. you can get one made at a local exhaust shop for $300. however if you want real performance you should go for a catback. or maybe a header back

Would anyone know if the axle back would fit on a 2.5? If so, this will help the 2.5's and not leave them out. I was looking at the Stillen's Axle back, the 2.5 and 3.5 share the same part #. Personally I wouldn't know cause I have never looked under a 2.5.

I think thats the msrp price..I know on my last car when I bought my Corsa Cat-Back it was 40% higher on there (Corsa) page as compared to what suppliers and venders were selling it for. If not they aren't gonna have many sales.lol

That sucks! I would pay $1000 for a Borla Cat-back, I know they have high quality and a great sound. My dad has a Borla on his 350Z. But I'm not paying $1000 for a muffler and tips!

Na bud its cat back. Even though i didn't get charged for the system. I still got the work costs and **** on paper. It was 1100 for the whole cat back.

Cat-back for the g35 is $1270. I would hate to think that the difference between the axle back/cat back is only $270...

Wow that price is an atrocity! Keep in mind this could just be the MSRP price. Resellers might be selling it lower. Still very high in price IMO.

An axel back!!!!…… This has to be one of the biggest let downs ever. I was looking forward to this thing so much until today. I have no problem spending $1k on an exhaust but absolutely not for axel back system no matter how good it sounds. Something doesn't make sense at all, anyone else emailing them besides me? Until then I'm thinking of Nismo or Stillen. Leaning towards Nismo but afraid of soft it'll be.

I love Borla but that HAS to be a Cat back ans you can usually pick them up for 7around 700 bucks, my 350Z Cat back was729, MSRP 1199, my Titan Cat back was 743, MSRP 969

That has to be a mistake, I'm sure that's a cat-back

if it truely is only axle-back it is indeed a waste...

Even a true dual exhaust (header back for both) from Borla for a 350Z runs a little over $1,000. I can't get a word from Borla to confirm if it's a catback or an axel back. If it is indeed an axel back the price has to be a mistake. This sucks.

Right almost all of their Cat back systems MSRP for 1K but you can get them cheaper by shopping around, I imagine that you will be able to pick this up for 7-800 bucks, but again if its not cat-back forget it!

Agreed.... I'm going to start researching Stillen and Nismo today and get me my exhaust ASAP. I've been waiting for Borla this whole time.......

this may help answer some of your questions...

i emailed Chris Higgins back as he was the one that sent me the Borla notification that the exhaust was in production... this was his response:

Michael,

Thanks for your interest.

1. $1,000.00 for just the rear section? nismo & stillen full catbacks are going for less than $900(1) Our system is made completely from austenitic stainless steel, a much higher grade than milder ferritic stainless that’s commonly used. That’s one of the reasons we guarantee our exhaust systems with a Million-Mile Warranty. No other exhaust competitor offers that b/c they can’t guarantee their components will last that long. And while the retail cost is $1000, we encourage our customers to use our website or call-in to find a local Borla dealer and get the most competitive price. Just by placing an order through your local muffler shop will help save you $.

2. Why isn't there a real photo of the exhaust? (all i see is a computer generated image on your website.(2) Since only the prototype has been fabricated, we haven’t had a chance to produce another rear section yet. They will be rolling off the line shortly and that’s when we’re usually able to get a picture of the physical system.

Thanks again for your interest Michael, please let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Chris Higgins

Borlas are great quality but 1K or even 600 bucks for just a Rear Section is outrageous, I don't think he thoroughly read the email you sent him, I thought the proto was a cat-back system?

The exhaust is most likely 100% 304 S.S. I know Stillen and Nismo use 400 series stainless on their pipes (304 on muffler and tip) which is prone to surface rust. I'm still in shock about this system..... Who knows what it even sounds like, the clips around have been the catback version/prototype. (big sigh)

Every exhaust I've bought from Borla is all 304 Stainless, Z and Titan, I'm sure this is as well.

you could probably buy a borla muffler and tips, take it all to a shop and get one made for way less then 1K
