I say everyone e-mail Borla to make sure its a full cat-back then have a group buy so we get it for $500 free shipping

Hopefully Borla will release more info and pics once they start production. I would love to get this but I'm iffy about ordering stuff I dont know much about.

How easy or hard is it for the average joe to put on an exhaust? Ive never worked on a car but I can do the average fix me up stuff around he house. Im sure I can get 4 jacks and boost the car up but how difficult is it to hook up? Any welding required?

It is VERY easy, everything is bolt on and requires ZERO welding, well at least my 350Z and Titan didn;t and they were both Borlas, I am not a greae monkey either but consider myself to be pretty handy, the hardest thing to do is get the old exhaust off as it is usually heat binded,

oh one word of advice after the install DO NOT stand behind the car when you start it up you will be blowing very small metal flakes/shavings and burning off oils and chemicals from the fab process, it will smell funny for about 100 miles or so and it takes a good 2-3K to get the full "sound" well that has been my experience anyway!

but it is very easy!

Borla just got back to me. This is what they said:

_______________________

The price and the system only being a rear section is correct. As of right now we do not have any plans to make a cat back system for this vehicle.

Thanks

What is the difference between axle and cat? From my very limited experience cat is the full pipes where axle is just the big tank by the back tips. Is it possible to turn this borla into a cat bak?

Doesn't even look good for power gains...... $1000 for a beefy sound

Well, now i'm really glad I bought the Stillen Cat-Back before the January Special ran out. $700, much better, $300 in the wings for other opportunities.....

You're just said what most of us are thinking…

They aren't giving the enthusiasts what we want and with that price only an enthusiast will buy it. Disregarding the price, I wouldn't buy an axel back, not on our cars. Now if they throw up a dyno and someway get as much whp as Stillen and Nismo then I might reconsider.

million mile warranty? they charge all that money so they can claim a 1 million mile warranty? I'd rather it be $450-$500, and have it last as long as a "conventional" stainless muffler!

I'm now leaning towards the NISMO as well, the Stillen just sounds a little too Ricey from the clips I've heard so far. But every clip I've heard so far seemed to be CVT, I'd like to hear it on a 6-Spd.

Heh when I first saw that price I thought "so this is how much aftermarket parts cost for imports", until I read the rest of this thread lol. Is there any performance numbers for any of these catbacks out yet? the nismo or stillen that is

I have a Stillen on my 3.5 and I can tell you, it is the furthest thing from rice. Very deep nice tone. I absolutely hate "ricey" exhausts and I love my Stillen. The sound clips don't exactly do it justice. I couldn't be happier! (well that is now that my tips are nice and straight but that's another story) Borla is WAY too proud of their shiny little muffler...

So it seems Borla has no intentions of making a cat-back. How can someone turn this into a cat-back exhaust? Lets say I buy this thing and its 2 1/2" diameter. Can I just buy the extra piping and have a shop fab it together for me or is there more involved in cat-backs?

Borla is definitely a good quality product, and the fitments are usually great. But you guys are right, 1000 for an axle-back is atrocious. I had a Borla on my A4, and it was a complete cat-back with a downpipe and it cost me about 700. It was a great system and I'd definitely recommend Borla to anyone...just not at that price. Maybe if it was a complete cat-back...

Well lets see what the dealers can give it to us for.... After consulting adidas2go, who has the borla catback sound clips, we could very easily slap some 2 1/2" pipe on. He did tell me he's running without a resonator so I would think his exhaust is going to be more aggressive than anything else available for the Altima. I'd like to hear some claims from Borla on power gains if any. I know Borla has great quality, that goes without saying, but I can't see them making a $1,000 cosmetic (sound) system.

We here at Borla have been reading this thread & others like it recently. It came to our attention that our rear section might not have been priced correctly. We had to dig through costing sheets & bill of materials, and found out we did unfortunately make a mistake. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. The cat-back we were in the process of designing would have been priced at $999.99 and the rear section we completed should have been priced at $799.99.

At the time addidas2go had our prototype, we were considering a rear section, a cat-back, and even headers. All three parts were assigned part numbers, although we decided to only produce the rear section. In the process of transitioning from R&D, Engineering, fixture design, costing, and production, we transposed the rear section & the cat-back part numbers. Again, we apologize for the mix-up and will continue to offer our rear section (P# 11762) at $799.99 retail. We encourage you to use our website to find the nearest dealer to you to find the most competitive price. Thanks again for your interest.

Regards,Chris Higgins

Chris, thank you for taking the time to stop by and clear this up for us. The folks here eat this stuff up, myself including. Any support for our vehicle is greatly appreciated and doesn't go unnoticed. I understand you have to price the piece while accounting for many factors. Thank you again!

For what it is worth - I believe the "street" price on the G35 exhaust is around $8-900.

As for the axle back on the AC application - Did Borla decide that the stock cat back section would be most efficient -does anybody know what Borla states the performance gains (HP/TQ) are on the AC?

In that price class people want to know what they are getting, you would really expect that manufacturers do their homework a little better. Just my two cents
These are some excellent issues you raised particularly around the issue of expected gains and specs. Even then it may be hard to compare stated results because of reporting and testing differences.

Like many of you - I subscribe to the theory of More Bang for the Buck - so when considering mods - I don't want to pay extra if I can get the same for significantly less.
