From my knowledge. I could be wrong. But always leaving it on(while the car is on of coruse) won't hurt anything. I'm hoping to get replies as well.

2003 G35 Coupe 6mt - Stock is 14.2 @ 101 with a 0-60 of 5.7 - 6 Seconds (Tested by Car & Driver)

Tein S-Tech SpringsBlox 5/8th Intake SpacerZ-TubeGrounding KitEngine Damper

18x8.5 245/40/18 Front18x9.5 275/40/18 Rear

No spare tire and 40 LBS of net front seat weight removed. (replaced with a lightweight R34 GTR seat)

Times would be at 10ft above sea level (Florida) and 70 degrees temp.

Mid 13s ? 0-60 in 5.5?

take a swing at it. I'm thinking of taking it to the track to find out for sure.
Florida has an amazing DA during the spring since it it below sea level in a lot of places so if its not too hot or humid your going to run fast. Mid 13's are possible in Florida.

You should think about a junkyard fan from a Mercury Sable/ Ford Taurus station wagon the 3.1 v6. This fan has two speeds... speed 1 is about 2100 cfm speed 2 is 4000-4500 cfm depending on the year and condition of your fan. You belt driven clutch fan probably moves in the neighborhood of 3000-3300 cfm.

I put one of these fans on my Hemi ram and the difference was amazing.

You need to use relay's. Using an amp meter find a spot in your fuse box that is powered by the ignition switch. Use it for the keyed side of both relays. For the low side of the fan use a 30 amp relay and a 30 amp fuse. For the high side of the relay use a 80 amp relay (on start up this fan can draw 100 amps!) and a 100 amp fuse (they are hard to find check radio shack). Use gauge 4 wire for the 80amp high side and gauge 14 wire for the 30 amp low side. I used a thermostatic switch to control my high side of the fan. I could also use this switch to start the fan with the motor off. the switch was mounted on top of the radiator. For the low side it came on with the ignition.

Let me know if you need any help. I will try to draw a wiring diagram for you this weekend and find some pictures of my set up.

Confused, but willing to learn...

It's kind of ghetto, but you can buy a heat switch, and tape it to your radiator hose (top). When it reaches a certain temperature, it closes and makes the connection to the fan. Like I said, it's ghetto, but it works well.

I'm looking on ebay. They have some universal radiator fans. Would any of those be recomended? What sizes should be sought after? What CFM should be desired?

I bet on a good day with slicks and ideal track conditions along with a near perfect launch you could get mid 13's. Just toss a Sneaky Pete 50 Shot on there and you're guaranteed mid/low 13's GoodLuck!

OK.... this isn't cool...

Problem: Mechanical fan - 04 G35 sedan AT rwd

Solution:

I looked at mine, and sadly, but actually, for my relief... I saw a mechanically driven fan... but in reality, it's OK, because when I have it removed, I expect some impressive results....

\so, here it is... I was behind a 350Z in a coffe drive thru, and well, I was inspired to pursuit this particular vehicle, well, he basically smoked me, but it was cool to see the VQ moving that well I was really wondering, why could this be happening, but now things are coming together, G35sedanlover, I;'m impresssed with your times, and, I have hopes to get the other mods you have and then a few extras as well, I aim for low 13s to start, and I plan to really get into it next year, as things progress financially

Sounds like the electric fan is definitely the way to go....

Probably gonna need some good instructions since i've never done this before.

Will this change the size of the belts that are being used when you remove the fan/clutch??

I want to say no. I don't see how it would. The stock fan is 16" and i'm considering a universal fan. Save $150.

when you remove the fan, the pulley stays as an idler. I used a 17" universal and had to shave the shroud down to fit. 16" should be just fine. I would spend the 60 bucks and get a relay over a regular switch (kind of ghetto). The one I have is a "Probe" style. You slide this into the fins of the radiator right where the water comes in. Mine is also adjustable and has an AC over ride. If you get a "set temp" one, just make sure it kicks in at the right temp. My fan will kick in when the engine get hot enough or when the AC is on no mater what temp it is. The full service manual has a lot of good information about temps and fan cycles. You typically want your fan to kick in 15 degrees higher then the water thermostat in your car. As your car heats up, the thermostat opens and lets water flow through the system to cool it. Then if the engine still gets hotter, the fan will kick in. My fan really only kicks in if I am sitting in one spot for a long time and it is fairly hot out. I was paranoid at first because it never seemed to kick on and I thought I was going to over heat. I always watch my temp gauge and it never gets above half way up (same spot it had always ran at). Our cars also have an auxiliary fan just in case it gets too hot (in front of the radiator).

Instructions:If you have a service manual, go through it as it has good instructions on removing all of the components. If you don't have one, get one!

Remove intake scoops in the front of the car. loosen the belt tensioner for the belt that runs the fan. Remove 4 nuts that hold fan on.Remove bolts on fan shroud.Pull both out at the same time (one at a time doesn't work because they are inside one another). Might need a second set of hands.

Replace 4 nuts to hold down the pulley where the fan was (now becomes and idler - same as the factory electric fan). Torque to spec.

retention belt.

Mount new fan with the fasteners and instructions from fan. I would highly recommend a factory replacement fan so you do not have to fab any mounting points.

Mount relay and attach all wires per their instructions. The more functions the relay has, the more you will have to hook up. Cheap ones are power, fan leads and the heat probe. Good ones will hook up to the AC and an "ignition on" power source as well, so it will only run when the car is on.

Replace intake scoop.

1st gen guys, please don't go ghetto on your Gs. You should be able to fab something from a 2nd gen. Just contact the recyclers in this thread zerothread?id=332148 and see if they have any 2nd gen parts you can use.

Why not call up a junk yard and see if they have a fan assembly from a 2005+ ??

wouldn't it just be a direct fit/bolt up??

I'm not upset, I'm just excited. Another mod to do that should make a big difference. Hooray.

Great!...Just Great!

Here I was all happy that my 05 produced more power than your modded 03/04s and you guys go and find a new source to free up more power.

Now I'm going to have to go buy mods to make sure you don't surpass me .

How am I going to explain this to the wife???
