did you buy a 240 for 1/4 mile times? if you did you may want to see about swapping to a v8 or even getting a mustang. these arent too fast and furious in a straight line without heavy and expensive modding.

having said that, i could run a better quarter in my old oldsmobile g-body cutlass.

I ran a 12.9 with my 240sx but that was with a rb25det in it!! turbo the ka24de they handle boost really well or go with a RB motor and dont let anyone tell you that 240 will always be slow because they can be made to go VERY fast!!

I'll be honest, I ran a 16.3 at 86mph. That was with stock exhaust and cold air intake, oh and with the automatic transmission.

in my automatic, to answer reno it shifts at 7000 from 1 to 2 but 6500 everywhere else

thats pretty much exactly how the manuel should be driven too depending on your cams and timing

hey dj pants, if youre pushing all the way to 7k rpms. how is that 5.5k dropoff affecting you? im guessing that shifting at 7k puts the revs into the meatiest part of the powerband after a shift, or else why hold it after the power drops off like that?

fastest i've ran is a 10.5 @63mph(i think) in the 1/8th mile(8th not quarter), shifting @ around 6300rpms or so, normal tires(crappy, on doughnuts!), somewhat bad engine(many miles), ebay intake and no weight reduction, everything else stock, base model 5sp.

i think my brother with a 95 240sx automatic(base model) ran a 10.5 too, or somewhere around that.

well you pretty much have to hold the automatic out like that. there is no reason to get off the throttle as when the car shifts it still accelerates more than the manual car can.

Still holding out to 7000 has the ability to get you up to at least 40 before the shift, which is five more mph than the five speed at 7000. although the gear is taller, its not that much taller. it makes me wish the 5speed 1st was this tall

i have 240/240 cams in that car. i swear by 248/232, but i havent tried 248/240 and this car shouldn't have 248/248

240/240 has some serious gains in the 3000+ area over stock, but it falls on its face harder faster. I honestly dont notice the power drop off, but the only thing i can compare it to is my fully stripped coupe with a 5speed and headwork, so i wont compare it.

In these cars its still more advantageous to take advantage of revs rather than worrying about power dropping off. if you can rev it out to 7000, do it. but stock for stock a car that shifts at 7000 will use the gearing advantage much better than one that shifts sooner. however, after second gear i wouldnt take it out that high

I am not a %100, but I believe the automatic revs higher than the manual. The automatic doesnt use the computer to limit the revs during regular driving, it has a seperate device that tells the transmission when to shift.I say that I am not sure because I can not remember who was talking about it or when/where I read about it. It makes since to me because my father had a Bronco II that I drove until I was able to purchase another car. It had problems shifting(wouldnt downshift properly, it would carry out gears too long, etc..) and there was some kind of little module(it was ran off of vacuum) that told the transmission when to shift that was bad and had to be replaced.

Do a search, someone has to talk about it on here somewhere.

I found the post...

yeah i knew you were talking about the eighth

i was just wondering because this girl i know who's dad owns an eighth mile strip was talkin **** that my car wouldnt even run 10. but i make more power and my car is lighter than yours, so high 9's should be quite possible

but tis the winter now, so its time to build for N/A for the spring, but its a little disappointing i'll be shooting for 14's in the quarter..

sweet, no problem for me then

high compression, header, exhaust, tune, cams, intake, e fan, pulleys, flywheel and clutch. doesnt include big stickies and a diff. all to run 14's....

oh well it'll still be ridiculously worth it, especially dailydriven
