our '07 we got in November squeeked when backing up especially in the morning. The dealer said the rotors were glazed. they resurfaced them a little and changed the pads under warranty and it's been fine since.

oops, this is a repost for me.

My squeal is fixed and my solution is to ignore everything Nissan Corporate tells you. I’ve been driving 4 weeks now and no squeal!

I bought my used 2005 Infi FX 35 with 29k miles on it around December of last year. I literally drove it back to the CarMax dealer every week for a month after first hearing the squeal. It only squealed at certain times… not consistently, but it was loud when it did squeal! So I recorded video of the squealing and hounded the heck out of the service department. They finally fixed it by installing Wagner ThermoQuiet brake pads which are made of a softer material that does not squeal and is NOT made by Nissan. And of course Nissan would never tell you to buy an off-brand product to fix your Nissan/Infiniti car.

My problem was such a confusion for the CarMax dealer that they got the Nissan factory (located 15 miles from where I bought my Infiniti) to give suggestions, but none of the suggestions ever worked. The techs at CarMax spent over 3 months trying different types of Nissan factory brakes including changing out shims. The tech also found a couple of Nissan service requests that he followed up on, but all Nissan suggestions failed. My dealer even got the local Infiniti dealer in on it thinking they would be more help. The annoying thing about that is that I went to the local Infiniti service department at the same time I was harassing CarMax and the Infiniti dealer wanted me to spend over $1,000 to put all new parts (Nissan parts mind you) on the car which probably still would not have fixed it.

I hope this fixes everyone elses problems too even though I know each problem is unique. I do have to thank the Jackson, Mississippi CarMax dealer for all the time and money they spent. I know it should be normal in the business world, but I’m not used to having customer service that finally resolves the problem like this. Lars is the service manager and he spent hours researching this… so much that he earned a couple of certifications on brakes while he researched my problem. Lars never once got angry at me even though I pestered the heck out of him. NISSAN KNOWS the fix and won't say it. Thank You Lars!!!

I have a 2007 Murano Same thing with the brakes.... Because we had a major rub problem when we test drove the car we did get the dealership to replace the front brakes. However, the Screeching noise in the rear when backing up and now at times while in forward breaking and a slight rub sound when traveling at a crawl is now present. I was just told by that at 27,385 miles with a lot of highway miles....NOT stop and go driving...I will need brakes very soon. How are your brakes holding up?

64K on my original 04 SE brakes and still going strong- with a mixture of city/highway use. But both the front and rear pads are getting thin, and I'll likely replace them when I do my fall oil change and tire rotation this Oct. But since they only cost $50-60 and take about an hour to change, it will be no big deal.

If you only got 30K miles on your original brakes and weren't abusing them (like some here who are renting their Mo's and don't care), there is definitely something wrong. Especially if you have done mostly highway driving. But, as I stated above, since they are so cheap and easy to change, I'd suggest just putting new pads on and seeing how the next set wear. Lots of places (like auto Zone) still offer lifetime warranties on brake pads. So if they do wear out in another 30K miles, just take them in, do a warranty exchange, and get a new set.

Mine lasted, squeaked a bit once in awhile. I actually traded in at 39,000 (on a lease) and got a 2009. So far nothing wrong has surface at 4,000 mi.

The noise is caused by faulty brake pad shims. No they are not on national backorder, any dealer should have them in stock. To resolve this issue, the pads, shims and caliper hardware need to be replaced. Take your vehicle back to the dealer and tell them a Nissan technician informed you that there was a Nissan Technical Bulletin out for brake noise in reverse. Also, tell them to use ASIST to look up the symptom for the brake squeak. GOOD LUCK!
Hi I just found this post. so my brakes do squeek a little when cold. It's not terrible but I prefer them to be perfect. Should I bring back to the dealer and what exactly should I tell them? thanks!

There is no solution for it if it only happens when it's cold. That problem happens to all types of cars, not just the Murano. If the problem persists beyond initial warm up, then I would have them checked out.

I have a 2003 Murano and have had many "fixes" until I backed out of my driveway the next morning. I have not had any long term success. However, I never heard of the Nissan fix that was mentioned earlier in the conversations. I will ask the dealer about this. Maybe there is hope after all. My neighbors have been so patient.
