Hello all,

I have an 06 M35x and my car's audio system is totally unresponsive!! I searched on here and it seems that there was no solution found. Anyways, so here's what I've done up to now:

-Ran the self diagnostics mode and found that the "audio unit" is non-existent.
-Looked at the AV section of the FSM to troubleshoot the issue.
-Ruled out the amp because I can still get navigation alert sounds.
-Tried changing out the head unit, multifunction switch and the NAVI control unit with good working parts, problem still persists.

So, now I'm my head against the wall trying to figure this out!! Is there anyone currently here who encountered this issue either currently or in the past that can point me in the right direction?? I would greatly appreciate it!!!

One more thing: I did check all related fuses and they're still good.

you've swapped out the entire HU and still had the same issue? Screen still works fine? NAV still operating as expected?

In order to remove the HU you have to unplug, I think its 3 or 4 connectors, those are all plugged back in? Or does one of them look loose, damaged or old?

Is it possible that both the HU and NAVI control unit is married to the BCM??

that is a possibility.. looking at the FSM I didn't see the correlation but maybe i'm not seeing it...

Have you recently installed an aftermarket LOC or amp?

It shows no errors, weirdly, and that is what's frustrating me most

Do you by chance have the rear reclining seats?

You most likely have an electrical issue, and your rear armrest might be triggering the symptom you reported.

Here are some discussions on the matter:

2. no-audio-when-rear-armrest-is-down-09-m35x-t617766.html

So... Turns out that I had mattd860's exact issue ("the "no audio when armrest is down" link)... A broken wire!!!! Gonna fix it up and hopefully that should do it.

I am having that same issue. I can't find a DIY on the fix though. Do you know of any? Can you share how and what you removed to locate the wire that failed?
