Herro fellow niconauts. I need all the info you gots on the Y34 as it is the car i most likely will be buying next...when i get a job and money that is. It's still early but i would like to know if any of you have any personal experience with this car as i have never driven one or been in one, most of all i would like to know the reliability of this vehicle because i'm probably looking at one around 100,000 miles. This is just gonna be a nice chill vehicle for me with luxury and just an overall great looking car. i don't plan on doing any performance mods, maybe just some visually appealing and vip things.

I would appreciate any info from the gen chat folk because i checked in the m forum but not much general info on this vehicle in there, but then again i didn't look crazy hard either, thanks homies.

DO IT. DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT.

Go buy it now, then drive straight to your favorite exhaust shop and put together some Magnaflow parts under it. Then go drive around for a while with the radio off and the windows down. THAT smile alone will be worth the purchase price. Now go buy the damn car.

Beware of the oil consumption issues, though. Other than that, you haven't got much to worry about.

Actually, I'm not sure if anyone ever figured out what causes it. Infiniti's fix is a new engine.

Infiniti's fix is a new engine, if you're under warranty and beg really hard. Pricks.

Fortunately, its an uncommon problem and if it hasn't exploded after 7 years, it'll probably keep on going forever.

Dont do it, its my idea.

Seriously though. Before I bought my wife the Max, I was looking at M45s. I decided against it, because I would have been too jealous. :chuckle:

If I were to buy a big boy vehicle, the only thing that would be higher on my list right now, would be the new M56. DO WANT.

That reminds me, I really need to get down to Chicago for a weekend, get into some shens. Its not that far of a drive.

It's a bullet-proof four door sports car. However, I would suggest that you NOT buy one from your area. The rust, I'm sure, is horrible on most everything near you. Find one in AZ. Buy it, I'll drive it up to you and fly back home.

*EDIT* Plus, it will probably be my only chance to ever drive one. ;)

Also, there are occasional electrical issues. When the dashboard lighting takes a dump, so will your savings account.

Yeah the M45 is a pretty good car.. I suspect they may have some value later, since there were only like 2000 imported to the US in 2003 and 2004..

The exterior styling is fantastic, but the interior is basically straight out of the G35. Oil consumption IMO isn't a real serious problem, most people don't feel like they should have to add oil sometimes... I say, who cares, my old BMW would go through a quart every 1500 miles, and those are regarded as "bulletproof"..

I agree on oil consumption, but of course, I'm a Northstar guy. :chuckle: I think you meant to say the M interior was right out of the 02 Q45.

03-04 M45 is, in my opinion, one of Nissan's most handsome designs.

It's the modern iteration of the 90-95 Q45 if Infiniti hadn't had it's head up Buick's and Lexus's arses.

And seriously - Don't buy a northeastern one. Spend $200 bucks on a plane ticket and get one here. Seriously. Look at your Acura. :)

I love my 2003 Y34 M45 ... have had it since September of 2003. Currently over 100k miles and still going strong! I want to keep this car for a long, long time. :yesnod

Yes, it burns some oil - about 1/4 to 1/3 qt every 1750 miles or so in my case - my older Q45's did not use any oil! So, my Y34 engine is not considered one of the few (under 5 to 10% from what I understand) that needed to have new engines 'cause they went through more than 1qt in less than 1k miles (the requirement for replacement).

I bought the Infiniti Extended Warranty and they replaced a few parts (windshield, fuel gauge) under it. Now that I am out of warranty, I am hoping that the expensive electronics will not fail (this is true of most modern semi-luxury cars ... the parts cost a lot).

There were about 7000 to 7500 of these cars sold (more 2003 than 2004 as I recall) ... till the model was replaced by the 2006+ M35 and M45.

The design is a bit old-style, but unique and instantly recognizable on the road - which is what I still love about it. It does not resemble the "soap-dish on wheels" look that "modern" cars seem to go for ... making them non-distinguishable!

By the way, we have a car-specific forum on the Y34 and Y50 at NICO ... :)
