The unlock, trunk, and panic button don't do anything when pressed, but lock works fine.

I replaced the batteries on two different remotes, and went through the fob reset process but the remote still only locks the car. I checked the fuse under the hood, and even switched it with the identical fuse from the horn with no change in results.

could it be that both of my remotes went bad at the same time? It has been like this for about 2 years I just haven't gotten around to looking into it.

Have you tried re-programming the remote? Refer to link below:

Yes that was the first thing I did after new batteries. I took the remote apart just now, and noticed there is tons of yellowish goop covering all of the buttons except the lock button. I assume this is glue that must have softened or gotten wet through the years. Could that be the culprit? Any tips on cleaning it without shorting out the whole board?

Zero Residue Contact Cleaner avaialble from Fry's Electronics or similar store. Radio Shack should also have it. If not, the CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner from Autozone and the likes may work.

I will try the other stuff, I tried to clean it with rubbing alcohol but it didn't do anything. I saw this listing for an after market remote on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151024760809?it ... 23&vxp=mtr

but the seller says it will work with the 2001 i30 but not the 2000. Any idea why that would be?

The remote must be compatible with the control unit in the car. The FCC ID defines the frequency and data transmission protocol used so if there is a mismatch, you cannot use the remote.

I think you are correct, and unfortunately I can't find any cheap aftermarket remotes for the '00 i30. the infiniti remotes are different than most other car manufactures, other ones that I have seen have conductive paint on the rubber that completes the circuit on the board and activates the button.

The i30 seems to have a bunch of tiny buttons with metal circles in the middle, which appear to have a small amount of play. I cleaned mine with rubbing alcohol but it looks like there might still be some goop in the crevices of the buttons. Anyone know what the goop is for? Is it conductive and necessary for the remote to function?

The funny thing is I think I might have gotten the trunk button a little stuck because now it will randomly open if I walk by it. Oops.
