At the race track my 2007 Sedan trips the lights at the end of the quartermile in 14 seconds flat at 100 mph. If I stay on it I can hit 110-115 mph before I have to brake for the first turn out. If I stay in it a little longer I can hit 130 mph before I have to break for the second turn out.

Just saying... in this locked thread about street racing the race could have lasted all of 20 seconds.

130 on a 70+mph road is one thing...but 130 in a 30mph zone is something altogether different.

I've gotten my car up to about 85-90 several times. And while I'm sure it will go much faster, the need for speed or feeling like I'm careening down a track at death defying speeds is not there anymore (thanks God).

There was a time (centuries ago) when I would go 150-170mph on my XS1100.... but that was decades ago. No car, be it a Porsche, Ferrari, Vette, BMW M5, etc., can take a bike of this size. But then again, this was eons ago when I was driven by the size of my testicles and pen15 (maybe they were small and needed to compensate), the need for power and speed, the admiration of others and the need to feel powerful. To be young and feel immortal again.... naaaah, I'l keep my life as it is!

By the way, in the thread you site, there were a few folks who were hard on the original poster... how unfortunate- we never want to alienate others b/c we disagree, and I was guilty of this too. I would like to apologize to Reefercon should he ever post again.

I tried to keep my comments to myself... but Ares... how can you say he wasn't endangering anyone????
roofrecon.com wrote:straight off the lot. I swerved in front of him to tick him off and he followed ..called my raise and ...we took off at the green light.
What if that guy didn't want to race?? What if it's some guy just driving his car and he wants to get home in 1 piece??? What if it was your dad, brother, hell anyone that you love and some guy did that to them. What if they got nervous and skidded into a wall?

I completely disagree with your comments..

As for the harsh comments... there are people on NICO (it's a fact) that have lost loved ones because of street racing. As a matter of fact... I'm sure if you go on ANY car site and post that...it's either going to locked or the original poster is going to get flamed.

That is all..

I don't own a G or any Infiniti for that matter and I don't know anyone in this forum aside from the staff. I only mention this because I don't want anyone to think I have a biased opinion.

There are a few small facts in life, Death, Taxes, people speed, people race and more then 99.9% of it DOES NOT take place on the track. Seriously...think about this on a National scale. Almost everyone speeds, some go a lot faster then others. People break laws EVERYDAY...guess what is gonna change about that by posting online? NOTHING.

I know street racing is dangerous. I know it's killed people. No one in here is ANY better then anyone else because he or she doesn't race. I was Combat Rescue for a LONG time and have seen my share of vehicular destruction believe me. Does that make me better then anyone or smarter...no.

I'm not condoning anything, but for fvcks sake...stop being so damn judgmental. I've driven on 6 lane highways that have a 40mph speed limit. Are you friggin kidding me? 40mph...in AZ in the desert...GAY. SO guess what...people speed, people race and people wreck.

The people that drive conservative always assume we're racing through a friggin school zone at 1530...c-mon. There's a Huge difference between late night excursions down an industrial road and whipping through a school zone. People have been racing on the street since the first car rolled off the Ford assembly line.

Here's another fact, old people driving slow and poorly cause more accidents every year then racers do. Why don't we attack the elderly?

Save Judgment for God...

Brian, we aren't talking about a 6-lane HY in the desert...the race was in DC, in a 30mph zone. That's the issue. If it was on the interstate, I think the response would have been different. Speeding on the interstate is another argument altogether.

I'm totally with you on dangerous elderly drivers...I was stationed in Keesler AFB in Biloxi MS, and had many close calls due to older drivers.

You ARE talking about a road that is sided with concrete barriers though...AND he explained the 30mph thing as a BS DC generic speed limit do to the amount of people that live there. At night things are different. That's the point...people need to get off of every situation where racing is involved being a bad thing. Everything has surrounding context that needs to be looked at.

I completely agree.

Street racing may be illegal, but there are many of us who are careful about where and when we do it. It is unfair to judge all street racers as bad.

I believe that there should be more tracks around. I believe that they should be cheap to go to so that little mohicans don't wrap their rice burners around poles. I believe that the government should issue licenses in stages, allowing drivers with more experience who have taken advanced driving technique courses their own lanes and much higher speed limits.

So unless the poster was proud of hurting someone, I don't see why they should be berated.

We don't tend to have street or drag racing in my country... and you'll find that it's not done in most countries around the world. The reasons are numerous, but to name a few: a) gas is extremely expensive (2X what Americans pay in some countries); b) most people don't buy gas guzzlers or fast cars b/c of expense and b/c they're extremely non-practical; c) the car we own does not define us and we attach very little emotional/ego energy to it; d) we understand that no one lives in a vacuum--- accidents, tickets and other factors result in insurance rates being higher for everyone, which makes it easy for the racer to race at the same insurance rate as the non-racer who is careful or doesn't have the power to racee) cars are functional primarily and rarely are bought for one person, or to race, or show-off with multiple modifications;f) some countries understand global warming and the impact of this type of activity on the environment;g) we've seen speeders hurt or kill others (and themselves), and so we're a little more tepid about this "sport"

Well, there are many other reasons, but these are the more common ones. We don't pronounce judgment on those who race, but do ask that they be highly responsible, and it seems that there are too many folks who post or respond to others racing posts who lack this maturity and judgment.

I understand what you wrote. So, worst case scenario is that the other guy pulls ahead, blows his tire and wrecks both cars killing both and totalling both cars. So, they have only caused their family & friends undue pain. So, the impact of the risk is just local. Oh, and due to the wrecks, it causes my insurance premiums to be higher than what they need to be cause.

We pay for the stupidity of others.....thru inflated auto premiums.

But, I do understand what you are trying to say.

W661335PF,

I get out of the country about twice a year... Belize is my fav vacation.

If your roads in Brazil are anything like the roads in Belize 85-90 mph would be as scary/fun as 120-140 mph on my smooth 6 lane concrete divided freeway here in Phoenix, Arizona!

I work for a Chinese company and when I have a new manager arrive from Shanghai they are always amazed at our hwy system. My current Chinese boss earned a ticket for 114 mph driving between Los Angeles and Phoenix

SVT,

I'm not pro street racing. In fact you know me I am MR. Racetrack right? My main point is we as a club killed that guys interest in Nico over a single street racing thread? There has been a lot of street racing posts and posters that have received almost no verbal punishment for their racing. Hell we are even easier on the DUI drivers that come in here asking for legal advise.

I like everyone in this club I just think we were a little hard on that guy.

Everyone needs to live in Germany and Europe in general for at least 6 months and get used to the Autobahn. When your used to cruising at roughly 80-120mph everyday in your daily commute and racing at 160mph+ is no big deal then you'll realize that the speed limit restrictions are what is truly causing the problems.

Yes there are speed limits where there "need" to be, and surprisingly enough people follow them for the most part. Not because they have to or they are afraid or the annoying cop sitting in a speedtrap, but because they are allowed to get it out of their system on the Autobahn (of course this is just my personal opinion). Basically I just love the driving style of everyone over there. People don't block you in or keep you from changing lanes just because they can. They don't slow down or just cruise at a slow speeds in front of you....they get the hell out of your way. If someone flips you off, you can write down the license plate and send it in, then BAM, 25 Euro fine in the mail for them haha. Basically we just have way to many uneducated and mentally challenged bungholes running around that make the whole driving experience horrible for the rest of us.

anyways, enough mild ranting.....all I can say is, if we could adapt some of Germany's driving habits/styles then the roads on and off the highway would be safer...but you don't have to take my word for it.....(Reading Rainbow song plays)

http://www.americanautobahn.com/http:// ... yclub.net/

Educate yourselves!

If we adapted just a few of Europes driving habbits....like, the left lane is for passing only! and to be on your cell phone, eating, or not paying attention in some other way is basically suicide, then maybe people would pay attention to the road. DUI's, people's negligence, poor vehicle conditions and the list goes one account for many more deaths than streetracing. If you get in a wreck over there, and there are signs of foreplay, then your insurance company actually says.....screw you buddy, you're on your own. And you have to pay for that guard rail out of pocket....so that kindof makes people want to have accountability too, which leads to driving good and being considerate of others. Anyways, I could go on and on have a good day all!

Hopefully, at 55, he has thicker skin and will come back to Nico and post about something besides street racing. I know that I had been bashed a few times for owning a mustang in general. It's just hard to sit back and watch somebody post about how 'safe' they street race. You don't want a 16 year old to read something here and justify what they do cause a 55 year does it. Uh-oh, I'll get off my soapbox....sorry....

And, yes, I like hearing stories of Jeff at the track! Setting a good exmple.

I was stationed in Italy for 3 years, so I totally agree with USAF guy! Europeans drive great on the highway! The passing lane is truly for passing...imagine that. However, their city driving is a bit unorthodox compared to US driving.

I did like the freedom of high speed on certain stretches of the Autostrada...I had a late-model V8 Firebird that pegged the speedo at 155+ a few times

That's an ignorant and closed minded point of view. Can the exact same thing not happen at the track? Except at the track you actually ALWAYS have people standing by watching, so the chances for parts flying into the croud is even greater.

If you wreck your car AT THE TRACK the ins isn't going to even pay. Unless you inform them that you race your car, in which case you are paying out huge premiums.

My whole point is this, there are circumstances to everything. If you are against street racing, then you ARE against speeding in general. Because there doesn't need to be a guy next to you for you to have an accident. If you disagree with me on this, then you admit that there ARE circumstances to everything.

AND you guys most likely did drive away a member because you totally over reacted to a silly thread. Of all the threads about street racing that I've seen, that was one to let go. But you hollier then though critics jumped all over that dude.

Why not just govern EVERY car in America at 75mph. Problem solved on a national level. Get caught driving over, means you tampered with the car and you lose your license. Bam...I just solved the problem.

Now we can all go hug a friggin tree together and drive Geo Metro's...

The realities are that in the big scheme of things, none of this really matters. Our arguments and disagreements will change nothing and those who race will race: those who don't most likely won't! Those who will behave responsibly will continue to do so: those who who behave immaturely and irresponsibly by street racing will continue along that path.

Making insulting statements (e.g, referring to others as ignorant and closed minded) about others, however, helps no one, detracts from the forum and further alienates members.

My wife is an instructor out here now at Sheppard. I was also active for 12yrs as a Helo Crew Chief. I'm a Civ now though, following her around for another 6 years till she retires. We're hoping to get back to Hanscom up in Mass which is where I'm from originally.

What's your job? You're not an officer are you ...lol.
