It may be the middle of winter here, but Im already thinking about what I want to do about wheels.

I have an Black 06 SL.

Right now I have the stock 17" alloys with stock size Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60s. I hate switching tires, so I would much rather get a second set of wheels for summer.

I know that the SE models came with 18" wheels with 245 45 18 tires. The tires are easy as I work at a tire shop. Im on the fence about whether I should just get a factory set of SE wheels, or go aftermarket. I have seen a few A34 max's with the stock 18"s, and they look pretty good, but I think I can do better. I really like the 09-10 wheels, but they are pretty spendy for a set of stock wheels.

I would really like to know what the specs are on the stock wheels, both 17" and 18". I would like to push the offset a tiny bit lower, or maybe go a little wider. RBmotoring has a nice set of Work Eurolines for a great price, but Im warry about the spec's.

Here is the car as it sits now, bone stock.

This is my super long term project/family hauler. The only things I plan to do, are wheels, SE lip kit, and a drop in filter (anyone know if you can put a Z tube on a maxima?).

Id really like to see some other 6th gen cars with 18" wheels. If you post a picture, post specs. If someone has pictures of 09-10 Max wheels on an A34, that would be awesome.

This is only my second thread in the Max forum, cmon guys, make me proud.

I think I would probably go aftermarket...unless you can find a good deal (like on CL) for something stock that is cool.

For example Altima SE-R wheels, G35 coupe wheels, 350z wheels (track editions are sweet and very light for 18s) M45 or M35 wheels. Possibly even FX wheels.

Check the 6th gen section of the .org and you will find pics of at least some cars with different wheels. Probably a lot more variations on the 5th gens, though.

I do like the Se-R wheels, and I like some of the Z/G wheels, but most of them are staggered, so finding a match set is tough. I really dislike the M an FX wheels. I see them at work regularly, and I feels they are too bulky. The spokes are just so puffy, it doesnt look right. Its one of the reasons Im not a big fan of the 6th gen SE wheels.

18 x 8 + 45 Work Eurolines. They look decent, but I wonder if 8" with a +45 is a little skinny/high. Im still trying to figure out what the stock 18s are for width/offset. That and Im not sure about the barrel bolts, it makes them a little busy.

The 7th gen wheels look nice on a 6th:

They are 19's though, but you will be happier with the look of a bigger wheel!!!

A nice set of 19 inch 5ZIGEN PRORACER ZR+520's in Hypergun Metalic would look mighty sick IMO...especially on your black max.

They also come in ceramic bronze & chrome silver...

Those do look nice, but I will NOT do 19" wheels. There is a complete lack of tire selection, not to mention tire cost is much higher. Also, my wife drives this car most of the time, so I would like to be keeping more rubber under the car. Function always > form.

I like those, I will have to look into them. I like the silver, and have considered black/gray, but my my wife nixed anything bronze. I had bronze wheels on my S14, and she just didn't dig it.

Ian, if you like either one of those wheels (Works or 5Zigen), Just find you a set of the Altima SE-R wheels and be done. The SE-R wheels look exactly like the Works, only better IMO.

Thats what Im thinking, any idea what the specs are on them.

Also, Im still not clear on Z tube fitment. Will it fit on a max? I know it looks like its the same length, just a little wider, with less extra stuff. Anyone tried it?

You talkin exhaust system or CAI?

So far, the best system I have heard for the 6th gen is the Altima SE-R NISMO exhaust. It is a few inches shorter, but some company bought a bunch of the systems and modified them to fit the Maxima. If you can find them, they look and sound sick.

Factor 6th gen SE wheels are some of my favorite wheels EVER. In fact quite a few of my favorite wheels are Nissan OEM. There are even factory Accord wheels that rank high on my list.

Most aftermarket wheels look like crap if you ask me. Too many spokes or too busy or too shiny or too attentionwhorish. I like a solid, clean, well proportioned 5 or 6 spoke. ESPECIALLY on the 6th gen, which has some mass to the appearance and needs a wheel with mass to the spokes to back it up.

But that's just my view. There are a few 6th gens around here rolling on sub-17'' 8+ spoke wheels and they look absolutely HORRIBLE. Would look a lot better in 18'' but still not great.

A Z tube is the intake tube between the MAFS and the throttle body. The Z version is larger and less restrictive than any of the Gs or Ms with the VQ, so many G owners use them as a cheap, factory looking upgrade. Ive looked at the dimensions, and they are very similar length wise, and I think the Z tube should fit.

I tend to agree with you, most aftermarket wheels are too busy. Ideally Id like to get a set of SE wheels, but with slightly better sizing. Maybe I will have to settle for SEs with 10 mm spacers all around.

Im still trying to figure out what the factory wheel specs are.

I like the Altima SER wheels, if not some BBS RGR's ... both of which are forged.

Also the 1st edition 350Z track wheels look great, again forged . You could get 4 fronts or 4 rears to negate the staggered sizing of the 350Z wheels.

I would love to have BBS wheels, but they are spendy, Id like to keep the wheels under $1000.

I like the 350Z wheels, but finding 2 half sets could prove problematic.

Stock SE 18''s are 18x7.5 and +40. I'm not sure what the 17s are, though.

Also, the Z33 came with the same design, but in 18x8 and +30, so that's something to consider as well. Unless I'm mistaken they weren't staggered like the track wheels.

I have a set of used 18" BBS RGR's in the gunmetal color with good Yoko ES-100's that I'd make you a deal on ... wheels and tires wouldn't be much more than the $1k + shipping

As for the Z33 wheels, check ebay for singles or pairs. I used to see them on their frequently ... just stay away from the ebay-retailers that want $300 per wheel.

You can get a set of 18" G wheels. They seem to work well and come in better offsets.

True ... but then if he looks at non-forged OEM, there's the 6 sounded spoke Z33 wheels that are non-staggered and should be ~$400 for a set in good condition.

I like the G wheels. The more I look into it, the more I like them. They are a little better fitting, and you can find them reasonably inexpensive.

Im intrigued. Whats the sizing on the wheels/tires? Got any pictures?

I just realized this thread kinda turned into a staff party.

Here's some pics when they were on my Q45

Pics (Click thumbnail for full size)

Wheels are 18x9 +35 with 245/45/18's. Not completely sure you can fit that much wheel/tire on a Max, though according to TR, a 18x8.5 +35 fits??

If you don't "need" forged, the G35C or Z33 18x8 +33 are a nice look. And can be had for much cheaper.

Those actually might work out perfectly. There's plenty of clearance INSIDE the wheel well thanks to the Max's compact suspension design, and they'd probably end up being almost perfectly flush. They might stick out a teeny bit, though. I'm not sure there's a whole inch of sunkenness on the stock 7.5 +40s.

245 45 18 is the stock tire size. They will come out farther, but I dont think it would be too much.

Its pushing my budget, but those are beautiful. How much you want shipped to 55112, so I can attempt to convince my wife.

Ian - I sent you an email.

Depending on what your budget is, don't rule out some current Maxima 19" take offs. You could drive on them until it's time to put the snows back on and sell them for 75% (or more) of what they cost you. I think there's a few sets in the Classifieds.

Well, I just pulled the trigger on a set of 18" x 8" G35 wheels. They are coming from a guy in Maryland.

One of the wheels has some scuffing, but its not bad. I may decided to just repair the damage, and try and match paint it, or I might end up just repainting all of them. I will decide once I get them.

Im excited to see how they fit. They are a tick wider, and because they are off a G, they should have a slightly better offset. Its kind of fun blazing trails. Now I just have to decide on tires. I really only have 2 options that will retain the factory rolling diameter. I can go with the SE 245 45 18, or I can make the jump to 275 40 18. Most likely I will go with the 245s, but I have a 275 at work that I will mount up, just to test fit. Id like a wider tire, both to protect the wheels, and add traction, though the drop in fuel consumption may outweigh the benefits.

Now I guess its time to find a Z tube, and see if it will fit.

Those shouldn't be too bad fit wise, but you do not want to put 275's on those and try to squeeze them on a Max.

Nice style wheel, and good without being aggressive fit for a wife's DD.

Hahahaha, Im not too serious about the 275s. I was hoping I would get a funnier reaction. I am going to put one on though. I have a 275 40 18 off a vette sitting at work. If I have time Im going to throw it on one of the wheels just to test fit.
