Think your mods are well hidden and beyond the reach of the cops?Think the cops will never look? Such is apparently not the case in Riverside, California. The city believes large automotive-focused get togethers promote street racing and that must also be the purpose of any vehicle equipped with performance modifications. To quell the situation, last Friday night around 11PM, police surprised 150 vehicles and their owners during a meet at Canyon Crossing shopping center. Fifty police cruisers from Riverside County, Irwindale, Ontario and a few other regions were paid overtime to block off parking lot exits and issue citations. Tickets were written for illegal modifications, paperwork violations, window tint and having no front license plate. Twenty vehicles were even impounded due to suspected stolen parts.

What starts in California, comes your way soon enough.

Engines are identifiable by the serial number. Many major body parts are tagged by the OE with the VIN# of the car it is put on. If they were lame enough to leave it on, it would very easily show there could be a stolen part (VIN# on the part matches a stolen car's VIN#). On the other hand, taking the tag off might also be seen as a red flag as well. Especially if it appears to have been a factory painted part (as opposed to having signs that it was painted at a body shop).

So illegal modifications will get you tickets in socal now? I'll call all my friends and let them know about the breaking news.
1unar3clipse wrote:so..... no more freedom of assembly?
Well...They didn't really bust anyone for the meet...they busted them for having stuff that was illegal. So yeah, its now illegal to break the law, your being oppressed.

I support being a car enthusiast...And I support illegal car modifications. But have anyone of you guys seen these meets? If its anything like the ones they had in my town I WISH they would shut it down.

I'm really doubting the cops are spending to much time rolling on legit meets of respectful enthusiasts.

These random parking lot meets by target on weekend nights are highschool ricers. If I were a cop I would show up every time I could, its more often street racing meets then car meets.

Maybe I'm making some assumptions here, but based off my experiance there are legit car meets, then there are the kids that gather in parking lots...sounds a bit like they are focusing on the latter (an easy an obvious target tbh)

Hmm, just googled illegal mods... some are reasonable...

However, they way they are enforcing it may seem a bit too harsh...

The one thing I noticed about South Carolina is their signs that warn how everything is punishable with a fine AND jail time. Indiana is an 'OR' thing. Not knocking the great State of South Carolina, just always found that interesting.

The So Cal Police (San Diego/Riverside/Los Angeles ect) have been cracking down on illegal mods since 2000/2001. The reason most of you are just now hearing about this is because ...

A. You are new to the scene and just learning about itB. All the drifter/street racers douches are causing accidents/fatalities which are making the cops have to crack down harderC. Their budget is getting bigger enabling them to enforce policy more efficiently.

Not many of the #2 happening out here in San Diego. Maybe up north in Orange County/Riverside/LA area. As for #3, State's broke ya know? They need all the revenue they can get.

Cops are known to pull imports over though for no reason(i.e. profiling). Ask me how I know.

The reason for a huge reduction in #2's in SD is because they pretty much nipped that ish in the bud back in '01/'02 when SD streetracing was at it's peak down in MiraMesa and other big areas, after 100's of citations and car impounds people pretty much got the idea. Riverside is slowly catching up to where we were in SD like 4 years ago, LA has been and will continue to be the big city left in street racing because of how big the city is and how many people they have. Basically there aren't enough cops to crack down on it completely.

As for profiling, I believe it 100%, luckily my car is registered out of state so I don't ever get f*cked with.

Makes sense about 01'/02'. That was right after my Mustang friend got out of the race scene(he rocked a 5.0 foxbody with 600hp from 93 till like 99'). I'd heard some idiots made the Fuzion meet cop infested for awhile, though I don't know if that's died down or not as I haven't been there in about 10 months.

Technically, the only vehicle I own that would never get harassed is my truck. Ugh I hate this state...

This is why I need to get an OLD car, so no one can tell me what to do with it.

Other than passing safety and passing the sniffer, there should be no such thing as an "illegal modification".

unknown to the rest of the country, south carolina is a lot like texas. they have stiffer penalties and their own set of laws for damn near everything.

the newest law that trying to get passed involves abolishing parole altogether. i think only one other state has this...virginia?

if you get 15 years, you will serve all 15. no exceptions.

Been pulled over THREE times in the S13 a mile from where I keep it(as country as San Diego can get). Usually they're going the opposite direction as me, I'm following somebody else doing the speed limit, they flip a bit#$ and pull me over to check my paperwork. Haven't asked to pop open the hood yet.

Unless I'm speeding, they don't even bat an eye at the corvette. Even with the supercharger whistling away.

It's because, for whatever reason, cops don't equate Corvettes with street racing, which is funny, because many of the Corvette owners I know are on it every other stoplight, lol.
