Did you do the whole car? Have you drove a 240 that was stitched before? (or any car). How was the improvement, any more harshness to the ride? Thanks

we removed as much of the seam sealer as possible, and burnt off the rest when we welded. the stitching doesn't really change ridgidity of the chassis all that much, it really just improves longevity of the chassis by keeping it all in one piece. this obviously isn't going to be a street car, so harshness isn't really an issue with us.

Also this is what im really intrigued by, because I want to keep my s13 as long as possible..."the stitching doesn't really change ridgidity of the chassis all that much, it really just improves longevity of the chassis by keeping it all in one piece.", can you please go alittle bit more indepth on that? Do you mean over time the chassis would "come apart" so to speak? So if I wanted to keep the car as long as possible stitching would be a good investment? Also I wouldn't mind the extra stiffness. Thanks

sticthing for a street car doesn't make much sense.you are really just adding extra spot welds all around your car. IT really keeps the chassis from stretching and coming apart due to the stresses of racing and abuse. what you can do is add new seam sealer after the stitch welding is complete and then obviously spraypaint to prevent your rust

My car will see the track as well as the street but not as serioulsly as this car of course. I want to keep my s13 aslong as possible, so what your saying is just leave the same sealer as it is? The chassis will be fine the whole time? Thanks

yeah, unless you are really going to be making a serious car, its not worth the minimal gain to stitch weld the chassis.

At that point you won't notice the diference. If your running R compunds, big brakes, and 400+hp you are just pushing the chassi so far beyond what it was designed for that you can start to run into fatigue issues and that's where the seam welding comes in. For the effort there isn't much payback for a street car.

What about just welding in small steel plates instead of stitch welding? Wouldn't it provide more rigidity for very small increase in weight?

Well as mentioned previously the stitch welding isn't done to increase the rigidity over that of a stock car, but more to maintain that level of firmness after extended track abuse. Hence small tack welds to keep the chassis members attached not a silicone or synthetic/acrylic substance which would break down over time. Welding on small plates would just take away from the theme of the car in adding weight, albeit a small amount. Every pound counts if the finish line margin's are divided by a few hundredths of a second!

whole assembly weighs 17lbs. Most of the weight is in the middle vs standard clutch so it has a lower rotating moment. Can be rated for up to 800ft lbs of torque (this one is only rated for 600 to make moving it around easier). Plus this is the first twin disk that I have ever "owned"

Will that 'Lightened' flywheel break up easily? I know that there's a lot of torque at the crank of the SR20 on hi-boost.

well the entire kit is built as 1 unit, you cant buy that flywheel without the clutch, and the clutch is good for 800 ft lbs of torque, the flywheel was just de pressurized for only about 600, and this is very similar to the setup used in 1200 hp drag cars. Maybe I can have someone from spec chime in with more specific answers..

Dale, Good to see you postin' up, and it would be killer if you could come up and work on the race car with us. Amy, Can't wait to see you next week! Remember, every weekend we are working on this car to get it ready for VIR in october, so any spare hands are appriciated. This weekend we go to finishing the cutting on the cage, we took it out one last time to get it finish welded and painted. We removed any extra weight in the doors and put sheet aluminum over the door panel opening, and we also cleaned up the rest of the sound deadening. It was a pretty productive weekend with pics to come tomorrow. Thanks to everyone that came up to help
