Well guys the weekend breaks down like this....

Friday night i get to my parents house and start to prep for welding the next day, Mark (the converted) and myself bust out some grinders and go at it, we finish that up around 10:30 PM and then we decided to do some quieter things, like pulled every wiring harness to make things eaiser, we finished removing the last stubborn bits of floor tar and just a tied up a few loose ends, we were done by say, 1:30 AM

Saturday 9:00 AM, we get the car and Quad ready for transport and we drive down the road, maybe 3/4 of a mile with the quad towing nothing but a shell on wheels, yeah we're rednecks. We arrive at a good friend Mike's House and used his mig welder, Mike has an array of toys including a

68 Chevelle 396 SS with 675 HP I need to find pics but they will be posted, His drag NOVA runs 8.80 second 1/4 times with 60 foot times down in the 1.35 second range. He is Bracket racing and has nitrous setup for the car, but has never sprayed, This car makes 967 HP on all motor, He also owns a Harley, A Ford F350 Powerstroke with some minor mods, and a incredibly nice 28 foot enclosed trailer.

Now fo the garage, Freshly built 2 car garage for his toys, 1 lift, and heated floors, amazing!!

We arrive and setup shop, we were give some rules of the house (MIke is a Fireman) so we were told to not burn down the brand new garage. About 3 hours into welding we spraked a little too close to the fuel lines and Set a nice flame show in the middle of the beautiful garage, after a roll out of the car and a full big can of the Fire Extinguisher we were back on the road to finish up the seam welding.

Today SuperDorifto and Fznat arrived with the engine that you saw, incredibly clean and includes a ton of new parts that are just perfect for this build, these include a new: Koyo Radiator, Megan Racing DP, Clutch, Hoses, rebuilt head squared block, and a ton of little nick nacks. Thanks again WILL!!! Thi is deffinatly a step in the right direction. I can't wait until this thing is running and chasing down the DSG car... Someday, hopefully soon!!!

Had to use this because of the person who was welding

Now if someone would have only capped off the fuel return line when they pulled the engine we wouldn't have had a problem. I blame Kevin

We haven't really gotten to much done in the past few weeks between vacations and life but we are still here. We are moving the car up to New Hapshire this weekend and that should prove to be interesting purley because of the shear amount of crap that we have accumulated for this project and everything being in peices. I've gotten more work done on the wiring harness taking another 10 lbs of crap off of it!

Since we decided to start this project we have been thinking alot about the car. It recently came to our attention that we have nowhere to keep the car over the winter! So to address that concern I've started an addition to my shed for it to live in and took some pictures.

Time for a big *** update from a good weekend.

Finally got the cage and the car together in the same place so that project started.

Dan tightening some bolts

From the look on Sean's face you'd think we drilled through the tire, but fear not NICO readers we're not that dumb (or are we?)

Sean proud that the main hoop fit and thinking the sunroof opening was somewhat cramped

Sean and his most prized Cummins banner

Getting jiggy with the chop saw (notice the safety glasses safety first!)

Well it kind of fits

That is level, but the better question... is the car level?

Fitting the second main diagonal

Dan and Amy showing off their graffiti talents

Dan removing the side impact beams because he loves us and cares about our safety

Some welding

If you know what he's doing tell me!

A little captain?

Dash made it into the car for a test fit

NICOclub, we'll even hold up your barn

Oh no a broken window! I love Sean and his funny looking faces

The easier way to clean it up

See we got most of it

Figured we'd take the winshield out to make welding easier

A windowless shell rolls back into the garage

What's this? Does NICO need ANOTHER silcamino?

Sean looking defeated seems to agree

But what's this?

Just kidding silcaminos are for sissy boys, real men take the whole roof off!

UH OH!

Sean taking a pretend spin in the 240

I just had to show him how we do it in Boston.

Nice pipe!

Tubing notcher was awesome

Look at that fit

A little mid-day exercise

Just look at that cage!

This welder is so much nicer than mine.

Such a fine car deserves a fine seat

So parts are finally starting to get up ON the car but we still have a lot of work to do!

nice work . Does cutting the roof off and re-welding it back on affect the rigidity or anything? Have you guys thought of stitch welding the car?

Roof will be gusseted to teh cage when it is re welded back on to the car, and the car is already stitch welded, look back to page 3(I think) Mark thanks for the update, ( I tried doing it last night but Iserve takes forever) oh well I have like 103 pics from the first day.

This gallery is updated with every pic from the first day until now if you need a recap. http://iserve.nicoclub.com/isgallery?id=5&cat=433

enjoy and remember support the NICOclub time attack car, post up if this is something that interests you and come watch us race it in october at VIR, This is a fun project that there will be more of in the future, so kick back and enjoy.

I'm building a stock '89 coupe to race on an oval dirt track. It's totally gutted and the cage is in. Next is the 8 gallon fuel cell, aluminum racing seat, radiator, and wiring to get it fired up again. How did you decide which wires you could get rid of on the wiring harness? I was thinking I could start at the ECM, work backwards, and get rid of everything that doesn't feed into it. Then, anything that I still needed and wasn't already powered could be wired directly.http://shutter05.pictures.aol....0.jpg

Best bet on pulling wires is to get yourself a copy of the fsm. Look at all of the plugs that are listed on it and decided what things your not going to need. Things like cruise control, radio wiring and anything else you deem useless and just start triming it back. It's really nasty and sticky but I think we have about 20 lbs out f our harness.
