It's taken us over a year to develop, design and manufacturer the Wiring Specialties replacement harnesses. As many of you already know, the idea was to forget wiring service and make a complete, perfectly fitting, brand new harness that will work with the specific JDM engine in a specific 240sx chassis simply as a plug and play replacement. No more waiting...

Finally, we are done with the SR harnesses for the S13 and the S14 and the first orders will be arriving in the next 2 weeks. I'll post up some pics shortly.

Moving on to the RB series. Having done so many RB harness conversions, its clear that the RB20 harnesses are in worst shape than most others and making the RB20 into a S13 harness would make sense.

I wanted to see what you guys think what to develop first RB20, RB25 or RB26?

The features are:- Brand new harness and connectors- improved grounding routing- OEM connector specs (no cheap aftermarket connectors that fall apart)- Designed specifically for the 240sx, shortened with proper routing- Guarateed to improve engine performance through better grounding and power wiring

If someone is interested in helping with the development, please email me directly at [email protected] and we can make arrangements.

Thanks a lot

Don't mind me asking how one would achieve this over stock harness?

I sure hope you guys do a better job with this than converting harnesses. You told a friend of mine that his harness was perfect (you converted it) so he spent a bunch of money on replacement parts with no results.

I met him toward the end of the fiasco and went to his house, took me an evening to figure out you guys wired his maf wiring incorrectly when you extended his harness.

I can't imagine buying an aftermarket harness from you guys after that.

If you are going to be creating a harness from scratch, it might as well be shortened and tucked along the PS frame rail. The stock RB25 harness could easily have 2-feet of wire length hacked out of it.

What happens if the end user has a stock MAF location? Blow-thru MAF location?

What if the end user has a Greddy/Freddy manifold where the IACV is moved? Or stock?

Unless you offer these options, I don't see it being worth the money (and apparent risk) over a standard harness conversion.

240z4u - I am sorry to hear your friend had issues with the harness conversion we did not resolve. I do remember speaking to him about the problem. Can you please have him email me directly at [email protected] and we will work something out.

The truth of the matter is, with the production harnesses, the risk of making a mistake in wiring a harness goes down greatly. No more risk of having soldering location corrode and come apart, no more mistakes with wire colors, etc. The human element is taken out almost completely.

Every harness we produce has a testing jig at the factory, so before the order ships, the harnesses are tested for proper wiring. This would be similar to taking an OEM part and replacing it, except that these harnesses will work for our engine conversions and fill fit and work better.

Again, please have your friend touch base with me about the MAFS issue and THANKS for helping him with the solution.

Rare_f8 - i am sure you have seen the ECU grounding on the JDM harnesses. Most of the ECU grounding is collected from a number of locations on the ECU and then merged into 1 or 2 wires that ultimately ground to the intake manifold. Now imagine that the copper wires and the intake manifold after 20 years of use, weather and shipping from Japan. We have additional grounding wiring that grounds to the chassis and away from the elements. Similar idea is applied to power sourcing.

Thanks for the question though, i am glad you asked. Yury

Guys, thanks for the feedback. This is eactly what I wanted to hear, so keep it coming.

To answer a few more questions.Pricing - not final yet, but we will do our best to stay close to the Market prices for the wiring service. So, for RBs it will be in the $3xx range.

MAFS plugs - the harness will come with a number of MAFS plugs that can be replaced by unplugging one connector and replacing it with another. We will include the stock connector, Z32 (if its different for the application), q45... anything else?

Routing - the RB harnesses are certainly too long for the 240sx, so the Wiring Specialties production units will be shortened, with the MAFS wiring routed through the harness to the OEM location. Blow through will work well also, as you simply back out the wiring a bit for a perfect reach. Idle control valve, intake mani, etc - the wiring is designed to run well with stock and Greddy units. Everything is test fitted with my RB30DETT in an S14.

Thoghts?

Yuri, Ill take the rest of this somewhat OT situation to email.

If you are in fact building a test jig to test every harness before it leaves, I will stand behind you guys 100% and I think it is a great idea.

My beef with "harness companies" was the desire to convert a harness and send it out the door untested. The end user has no idea how to make things work if there are problems, so they have to be flawless. The point of buying a service like this is to take out the guesswork.

If you are, in fact, testing every single harness before it leaves I think you are filling the niche' that people are really going to find useful.

Good luck with the business, no hard feelings.. it sounds like you are really making a good effort at fixing problems like that from the past.

Thanks Evan.

Yes, testing jigs are a must for production, so each harness we make will be done as well as an OEM item is.

Guys, any thoughts on the RB20 vs RB25 or RB26 production harnesses?Any RB20 owners that do not have problems with connectors falling apart?

Any feedback would be great. ThanksYury

I really like the sound of this! I have my rb25 harness in. But I have so much non factory equiptment on it now, that I would love to have a new harness, that I could swap out and make my wiring life a lil easier! Let us know when they r available.Oh yah, it's rb25 in a s13

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have been getting a lot of information from emails and phone calls. So far, it seems that the RB25 swaps into S13 and S14 are at the top of the list. I am surprised that the RB20 users have been MIA. I honestly cannot remember the last time i saw a descent RB20 harness.

Ow well, we'll get those done as well. If anybody has any good suggestions, keep 'em coming.

I'll post a few pics of the final SR product shortly.

ThanksYury

believe it or not man you can get alot of the OEM connectors right at the dealer...you just have to have someone competant behind the counter to help you out. when i worked at the local nissan deaelrship i was able to get just about any connector i needed...they have thier own idividual part number..sadly though, most of the OEM replacement connectors come unassembled menaing you will have to also get the pins and whateverwiring you will need to make the proper pigtail you are wanting.

The connectors are actually the toughest part. It is very easy to have them made in China in a few thousand or somewhere else in the East. However, quality is the issue i could not work with. If you guys have used the harness from ebay that is a knock-off of the stock S13, you know what i am talking about. They are OK, but not good enough.

So the only option for us was to import connectors directly from the OEM manufacturers in Japan - Nisin. They only work with the OEM manufacturers and are impossible to work with.

In any case, the only ECU connectors that are still available are the late model units (S15, R34, late RX7s, etc), which are being used on our harnesses. 100% OEM.It took 8 months to just set up the deal with them and pricing is much higher than the copies. I guess its the same as many of the opther products out there.

Not sure if its possible to get things from the dealer in the US as it would not have worked for us.

We are planning on importing a few core connectors for sale as well, so they will be up on the site when we do.

Pics coming.

ThanksYury

im definately in. looking for a harness right now, probably wont be ready by the time i need it but its a great idea. i personally would not mind paying 3xx bucks for one when wiring service alone is in the 200 range. do it. do it fast..

Lots of things are in motion. I am hoping to get a few or the RB applications ready at the same time...

I still want to do an RB20 harness, even though the owners did not represent, which brings me to a donor request.

We need an RB20DET into S13 donor for the development of the harness. We need a complete RB20DET harness that will go into an S13 chassis.

If someone is interested in taking part, a production harness will be the reward (a $400 value). If the car is not being used in the winter and you are close to NYC, we can send one of our guys to come out and take out the harness and get the process rolling.

Please contact me off the forum for more details at [email protected]

Thanks Yury

Are you looking for a converted harness or just the rb harness and the s13 harness?

Converted or not, we will have to rework it heavily for production, so all we need is a good RB20DET harness to work with. Ideally, if someone has put their car away for the winter, they should be able to help us and get a brand new harness out of the deal.

RB20DET into an S13, if you are not using your car for a 8-10 weeks, please touch base with me at [email protected]

Yury, I would definitely buy an R32 RB26 to '92 S13 (with working A/C) harness right now if you offered one. I have a converted harness now, but would much rather have a fresh harness to minimize troubleshooting considering the amount I've invested into my swap so far. Please let me know if you'll have one of these in production soon.

Thanks for the feedback guys. A few images uploaded. RB Harnesses are on the way.

RB26 - not yet, but if there is interest, we'll make them as well.

Thoughts???

How long would this process take? I may or may not put in my RB20 soon and I don't want to be waiting for a new harness to come back.

My harness is fully converted for a 89-90 s13 and every thing works. I'm VERY interested in improving the grounds and getting everything the correct length.

However, I do want to tuck my harness where ever possible, and my engine is not together. Would that be an option or do you guys do that any way?

I'm seriously interested and my rb is down for the moment. Would I be getting my old harness back, just modified and renewed or a fully new harness?

Alex, may or may not is not going to work.

We will need a 8-10 weeks with your harness. The result will be a brand new unit that will work 10 time better than your 22 year old harness.

No tucking here, as everyone wants something different, so the harness will be routed through the engine.

If you are interested, lets discuss off the forum at [email protected]

I had Yury do an S14 w/SR swap harness and it was plug and play. Great work at a reasonable price. I'm sure his new harnesses will be the same.I would be interested in R32 RB26 prices.

Wow. Having a buy, plug, play harness would be awesome. Then I could keep the stock one around just in case...

As for my vote, definitely saying rb20 for now, then once thats down move up to the rb25 and rb26. Oh, and an auto to manual harness would be cool!
