What games left you disappointed?
8:00 PM 10/5/2008
great game topic I think!, alot of great games out there, alot of bad ones, which games left you unsatisfied? Where there any games that got your hopes up, only to suck bawls?! what were they!?
A few of mine where.......
D1 grand prix for PS2:
I felt this game had alot of going for it if its controls didnt suck, announcers didnt suck, and gameplay didnt suck, I was dissapointed in Genki.
Need For Speed Since Underground:
Ricey kits, terrible music, unrealistic handling, easy cop chases; every game there after has gotten my hopes up only to fall flat on its face, each one does provide some fun, but for the most part i feel unfullfilled with its terrible handling, customization and so forth.
Gran Turismo 5 prologue:
what a shock i know. But what highs the game has, ( amazing graphics, good soundtrack, realistic handling, user friendly) it shares in lows. I cant stand online racing, its the biggest joke. I hate the small selection of cars and terrible A.I. i hate the way the do preformance mods. and the lack of customiablity always hurts, maybe they can save it, but i doubt it
Star Wars Forced Unleashed:
Now i admit this game is fun, but i just think it didnt live up to the hype. alot of people know where i am coming from, feels to arcade like, feels.....empty and drawnout at times.
theres a couple more, but i'd like to hear what others have to say
Yeah, I believe I adverted tragedy by renting Mercenaries 2 instead of buying it. I also rented Bad Company thinking the same, but its actually a pretty good game. Next I'm going to try Brothers in Arms, hope they didnt **** that one up.

It's not often that games disappoint me anymore since I have such LOW expectations for them these days. Most of them suck and I expect it.
Force Unleashed definitely disappointed, though. It was a lot of fun at first, but as it went on it became less interesting and more frustrating until I had no more interest to play it.
Lunar Knights for the DS disappointed me since EVERYONE I asked about it loved it, and EVERY review I read lauded it. It turned out to be abysmal. Terrible controls, terrible mechanics, hideous visuals, abysmal dialog and story, and no fun to be had anywhere.
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass was a MASSIVE disappointment and the biggest letdown of the Zelda series because Nintendo was clearly FAR too worried about integrating the gimmicky touch-screen controls to make a decent game.
Same with Metroid Hunters. Nintendo put so much focus on the Multiplayer aspect (which has no business in a Metroid game in the first place), they ended up totally glossing over the singleplayer component. So instead of yet another excellent chapter in the Metroid chronicle backing yet another fantastic gameplay experience, we got an absolutely terrible "story" with a completely generic gameplay experience.
When it was new, Fable was a big disappointment thanks to all the undelivered promises. Fable II should make up for that.
4.08 VLSD, NICO 8-way ECU, full exhaust with custom headers, Tokico Blues with Eibach springs, Stillen FSTB, 20mm RSB, 255 rear rubber. Of course I forgive you. That is your God's function. Your crime is forgiven. However, your stupidity requires a response." -Leto Atreides II
Well, I just started Two Worlds and wrote a review about it on my buddies gaming site. I'll just copy/paste what I said here. I kind of embellished how bad it really is (just a little bit) but I was pretty disappointed with it.

I'm a big fan of the sandbox style RPGs. Well, I'm a big fan of sandbox games and RPGs separately, so putting the two together is unbearably titillating. After having done everything in Oblivion and loving the living **** out of it, I needed a new game. Enter Two Worlds, probably still the latest in Oblivion clones on the 360 even though it hit shelves over a year ago.
I found the game in question at a local store, pre-owned for just $20. I had heard about the game but not read much of it; just the fact that it was an Oblivion style of game was enough to entice me. I brought the case up to the counter and was handed a disc in flawless condition so I coughed up my cash, grabbed my receipt and left. Even the box art looked pretty cool, and that sometimes goes a long way. If they had thrown stripper tit glitter all over it I probably would have spent another ten dollars on it.
I get home, and then I am whisked away to the bar with some friends. While lubricating myself I couldn't help but think about my new purchase and anticipate how much I would enjoy it. I talked about the game with one of my buddies. He also had never played it but was genuinely intrigued with the game. Being a huge Oblivion fan himself, I was even more secure with the earlier purchase. During the course of the next few hours, many beers and shots were consumed. We entered the bar at 8:30 or so and proceeded to leave shortly after one in the morning.
After getting home, I fired up the Xbox and inserted my new game. The game loaded, and brought me to a pretty cool menu that got me in the mood to play. I created my character and started the game.

What a huge pile of ****ing **** this game is. Framerate is nauseatingly choppy. The visuals are so bad that I actually envied blind people. Put next to Jeffery Dahmer it makes him look misunderstood. Murder victims look better than the graphics in this game. The anti-aliasing, if there is any, is horrible. It might actually have an aliasing feature to turn straight lines into jagged ones. The audio appears to be playing off a ****ing gramophone instead of a DVD player. The voice acting, if you want to call it acting, is about as good as the Lions defensive line. The hack and slash combat is as deep as a kiddie pool and even less entertaining. I played this monstrosity of a game for about 20 minutes before deciding that I would rather run naked through a knife shop.
If you have ever thought of playing this game, have a friend throw a brick at your head so you can forget about it forever. If you decide to play it anyway, remember that I warned you. Surround yourself with sharp metallic objects so you can end the pain quickly. Pass this game up and never look back.
Battlefield Bad Company, it had great singleplayer but the multiplayer.........it had alot of technical issues and poor design choices catered to scrubs.
Doom 3 was too heavy on the paranoid "gotcha!" scares and not enough on the fun playability.
If there had been a scoch more light, if the duct-tape mod was not a mod, and if they'd spent more time creating good maps rather than very detailed claustrophobia-inducing ones, it would have been wonderful.
I'm not saying that Doom 3 was a bad game -- it just didn't capture the essence of the first Doom series the way I wanted it to. It was more cheap thrills than substantive gameplay.
dark sector and heavenly sword. they were both alright, but i was looking forward to them and when i finally got my hands on i was just, meh.
littlebigplanet on the other hand is awesome. ive been lookin forward to that one too, and then i finally got a beta code. ive been playing the beta and that kicks ***. not disappointed at all.

Rented the game a few days ago and beat it in less than 6 hours. (had some breaks)
I really liked it..but for a game that was in production sooo long it was so short, Grand theft Auto IV even I think had less time worked on.
I guess you can only put so much in a story which can be summed up in about 5 minutes.
* SIG EDITED * Max allowable sig size 200x600.
MILESTONE* went 28 days with oversized sig, woot woot.
After Ocarina of Time being the first Zelda game I played, I wanted to stab myself in the eye repeatedly while playing Majora's Mask. Such a great way to make a really bad game after a really good one.

WTF? Majoras Mask was great, it had a dark plot, unique game mechanics, cool new abilities, good graphics.

Everything you just listed about Doom3 is what made it so appealing to me. The poor lighting is part of the atmosphere, the similarity of the "levels" (for lack of a better term), the fact that everything looked the same no matter where you were (except for Hell) was what I expected - just as it is in an actual industrial environment. I love that you have to choose between wielding a weapon or a flashlight. It makes the player choose between seeing the monster and being able to shoot the monster. I certainly encourage players to play on the harder levels and not make the game a freaking cakewalk. And for a truly great time get on XBL and do some co-op with a friend. You miss out on the story telling cutscenes but one of you can hold a flashlight and the other can hold a weapon - so you can see and shoot.
I'm with Minister of Doom on this one. Great game, maybe just misunderstood.
And I'm certainly looking forward to Fable II, that thing better not be a letdown. Its on my must buy list this Fall. I'm on the fence about Fallout 3, and won't buy Gears2 for a while, I'm getting bored with the "same old crap" and if I want a new shooter I'll pick up COD: World At War since I still don't own COD4. The new new Bond shooter shows promise, it uses the COD4 engine and unlike most movie tie-ins has been some time in development so it won't be some half-baked, last minute piece of crap release.
MOD, I'll hit you up sometime on XBL so we can go imp hunting on Mars! Or check out the Fable II multi.

Exactly! I always thought the Duct Tape Mod was the lamest thing since mom kissing you goodbye in front of the high school. Totally ruins the game. The flashlight adds a whole new dimension to the eerie dark.
I also thought it PERFECTLY captured the essence of the first DOOM game. I remember playing DOOM when I was maybe 8 or 9 in the basement with a friend and both of us being terrified out of our minds. DOOM 3 had the exact same tense feel, where you were never sure whether you really wanted to turn that next corner.

Is there a 360 version of DOOM 3 or just the Xbox version? I have it (and the expansion) for PC, but not for the Xbox. The Xbox version was sadly severely neutered, lacking the dynamic lighting that was added so much to the game's atmosphere as well as various minor things. If there was a 360 version I might pick it up for the coop, though.
I'm stopping by Walmart on my way home from work this morning to pick up Fable II. Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II Fable II man I'm friggin' pumped! It had better be awesome or I'm going to eat Peter Molyneux's soul.

I was 20 when Doom came out, for the record.
Doom was an action game; Doom 3 was a horror game. Doom 3's scares were "gotcha"s -- cheaper thrills than I would like and based on startling the player. The "trigger" sound effects were jangling and mixed harshly, with volume spikes. The creature effects were designed to mix with the ambient environment tracks.
In Doom, you could hear the creatures in the distance -- you KNEW they were there and even what creature it was. You could prepare psychologically a bit for what was to come, guess and second-guess where the attack would come FROM, but half the time you still got blindsided. THAT'S what made it scary. You may not have been startled, but knowing that you had to play that room perfectly to avoid death was the terror. Compared to that, Doom 3 is basically walking through a minefield with a gun. My nerves get jangled, but my natural reaction to someone saying "Boo!" is to get pissed and punch them in the face -- it's an instinctual response. That is opposed to my response to being scared, which is to get focused and implement a strategy. So Doom 3 makes me angry at the game for startling me rather than making me focused on beating the game because it challenges me.
The flashlight/weapon forced switch is, IMHO, just a cheap trick to up the ante for the gotchas. Half-Life 2 made that evident. I was MUCH more horrifed during "We Don't Go to Ravenholm" than i EVER was during Doom 3.
Remember, I didn't say that Doom 3 was a bad game. It isn't. It's gorgeous, has some revolutionary story vehicle elements, and is a solid game overall. I just said it disappointed me, because once I played through it the first time, I never really wanted to go back.

Starring at the entrance of the maze in E1M4 hearing the sound of the pinkies noticing I had 35% health and 9 shotshells was more terrifing than anything in doom III.

That was definitely a huge part of the game's atmosphere. I still remember the first time I encountered the Pinky demon. Because of that level's layout, you're near enough to hear it for a while. I wondered what it was, getting more and more nervous. Then I rounded a corner and OMFG WHAT IS THAT HOLY CRAP!!! there was a freaking pinky demon running right at me making horrible noises. Scared the unholy crap out of me.
