ok guys, heres the deal....

my headers and spoiler we delivered monday and are getting installed this weekend, so theres some good news. i also have been doing some "research" and here is what i've come up with.....

i wanted to wait until AFTER the headers/y-pipe install to post this so i could include an evaluation of the header setup as well, but ill go ahead and get this started now. the headers/y-pipe are stainless steel and look very nice. im not exactly sure of performance gains but will post those later. i told you i would send you guys a link about this setup so here are a few pages with info to look at...

1) http://forums.maxima.org/showt...pp=302) http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=2739953) http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modu...id=884) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1 (these are a set like the ones i bought)

ok so i hope that helps with the headers. now for the ecu. i have concluded that if you own a later model 4th gen (97-99) then you are just skrewed. JET offers a package where you send in YOUR stock ecu to be reprogrammed. i personally called them this morning and was told that it is dyno-ed to add 15 hp and 12 lbs torque at the wheels. sounds like a good deal for $399 (from JET) or $350 (from CustomEnterprise). however, they cannot remove or raise the speed limiter found on the gle and gxe models, which was my primary reason for doing the mod. so then i called Jim Wolf Tech. i was told by them that they can reprogram 95-96 maxima with auto or manual transmission's. they could also do 97 ecu with manual by altering a 96 ecu to fit. but they couldnt do a 98-99 ecu because it was wired into the anti-theft system and some other technicalities. so....there you have.

does ANYONE has ANY idea how to get rid of that cursed speed limiter WITHOUT lighting up check engine lights please let me know. i also called a local tune shop (crawford z) and was told tunning gives such a minimal addition that its not even worth the effort. can anyone give any other advice????

First off, JET SUCKS. Second Greddy EManage ultimate. I have researched this a whole lot. Upgrading my ECU is next on my list of mods. look here:http://www.greddy.com/dir_tech.htm. I have read more than a bible about our cars ECU's and GreddyEMU is the way to go.

Sorry to cut last post short, (employee out of gas) - If you own a Chevy truck the Jet stage 3 hyper chip is the way to go, but for a Nissan, NO! It will be a while before I can get the GEMU, (I have the FAPR [female aftermarket parts restrictor] mod in my life) and I will have Axiom Motorsports (http://www.axiommotorsports.com/) dyno tune it. When all said and done I'll post all the info I have. Kyle at Axiom said it should be good for about 50HP. It will let you raise the rev limiter and adjust the timing and fuel/air maps to proper spec to extract the unused HP in the high RPM range. Remember Nissan made our cars thinking of the average 40 year old soccer mom in mind, power is good but mileage is better. I think that philosophy is BS. Controlled power is the best. But with my wedding next week my finances are tapped, so I hope to have it on in October.PS the headers and Y-pipe look great!!!

You may try to contact technosquare. I am fairly sure they can remove the speed limiter on teh ecu but they take your ecu and reprogram it.

Technosquare has some great options for our cars, if you want a "plug and play" system. They give a decent HP gain but are not tuneable. With the Greddy EMU you can change a lot of parameters to achieve the maximum gains. They both cost $500. however you can just plug in the Technosquare and the Greddy you will have to program or pay to have dynotuned, which could cost a fair chunk of $$$.

Hey Ben, the headers look great. Be sure to post up how you like them once they're installed.

As for the JET computer, I would listen to the advise of the guys above. If they say it's no good, I would trust their judgment.

I've been thinking about the speed limiter. I know you can buy resistors and emulators for disconnecting the knock sensor and 02 sensors (respectively). Perhaps there is some way to fool the ECM once the wire is cut?

These are the types of threads I had hoped would eventually hit over here. Glad to have you guys aboard to shake-n-stir things up.

The "other" aftermarket headers are actually designed to be equal-length. Anyone see issues with these not?

Def post up some pix so I know who to look for at NOPI. Looks like I will be bringing my Maxima to "add to the gang".

Looks like the same exact ones. I do know I'll run into some mess with the O2 sensors. There's 4 of them if I'm not mistaken, I could be wrong though.

Nope, I won't be at NOPI. My engine light is on cause I have the Cali emissions max that HAD two pre cats and 4 O2 sensors. The y-pipe only has room for two, which is the reason for my light being on. Installation was a hell of a time to say the least. I'll get my photos off my camera and post a link to them soon.

my max is Fed spec emissions. so...there shouldnt be any problems with my engine light coming on, right??

You will need to install a O2 simulator to get rid of the codes

http://www.o2sim.com/

You will need a dual-output simulator. You will "tap in" at the engine-side connections (green and blue connections in front of the motor).
