Really not posted yet?? Anywho, looks like the eye is ganna miss us by about 200 miles, but still well into the outer walls of Cat 1 Hurricane power. Theres already snow in the App Mounatins and I am afraid to see where NY stands after its all said and done. Its definantly a big one but thankfully its not small, compact, and stronger. I wish I knew more meteorology and science behind the storms.

Here a few mins south of DC, Im not very worried. There might be some long power outings, some flooded creeks that are in walking distance, and a few falling trees but that doesnt mean I still cant get off work , especially when I work outside. But I do know one thing, I went to SC last week and got some big fireworks. Tomorrow night, before or after the worst of it, one of those big 12 mortar shot boxes are geting lit the f*** up!

I'm not too worried and we're pretty much in the storm's path. Depending on the news source, we're supposed to get either 5" or 10" of rain with lotsa wind. All I did was put away the outdoor furniture and made sure the gutters were clear. I chuckled when I went for the Sunday paper this morning and saw people lined up buying weeks worth of eggs/milk, for a storm that will be pretty much done in 2 days. I asked the woman in line next to me how she planned to keep all those eggs/milk cold if her power goes out. She looked dumbfounded.

She's even affecting me down in Tennessee...just changed over the wheels on the Z so I'm running on Bridgestone 970's. Might pass on work tomorrow as there's a winter storm warning for part of my commute with 4"-12" of show forecast.

And it's not even Halloween yet. :squint: Could be a long winter.

Id love to see a blizzardly hurricane. I forgot that we will be on the stronger parts on the SW side of the storm. Still should be somewhat fun as long as we dont lose power for 5+ days and a tree doesnt slam onto my car. Jinx!

Sandy doesn't leave much rain behind because of the strong winds.
But yeah... the winds are strong, I almost got blown away.

Yeah, I just checked the weather again and it said that the WSW was supposed to last through Wednesday morning. Ugh, I'm not keen on missing two days of work, but then Assassin's Creed 3 does come out on Tuesday. :)

I figure I'll know well it's time for work if it's the real deal or a false alarm though.

For the Haters: Our 4 day forecast here in the desert

Monday: 89/57 0% chance of rain
Tuesday : 88/56 0% chance of rain
Wednesday: 87/56 0% chance of rain
Thursday: 86/56 0% chance of rain

This is why we happily deal with 115* days for <30 days a year.

So far all I have is a s*** ton of wind, rain should arrive soon. I cant see this being a non-event after what Irene brought us last year. Homes and businesses effected by Irene are just getting back on their feet and they are going to have to deal with it all over again in dramatic fashion. I am not worried for my own personal well being, cant say the same for others around me.

i'll be going into work at the nuke for 6pm today, work until 6am tuesday, stay there and sleep/d!ck around for 12 hours (paid time and a half), then start the next shift at 6pm. hopefully nothing catastrophic happens and i don't die. they're pretty worried about the intakes being damaged by the ocean surges combined with the full moon's effect on high tide. the things i do for money :squint:

Well I don't know what's going on with the weather prediction models, but I can't figure out why they think a large storm such as this is suddenly going to take a big left turn and come hundreds of miles inland to the south Jersey/Delaware coast... I mean, it's leaning that way now, but yeah..

I believe It's due to the jet stream. It's dipping more southerly than usual. So The storm will bump up against it and turn. This storm is unusual because they normally turn right, but this one evidently is positioned to turn left. Go figure.

It's early am here, and not too bad yet so I'm taking the pups for a walk. If you see some flying beagles on tv, you'll know who they belong to. ;)

The worst part of the storm is passing Hampton Roads right now, and we didn't get that much water dumped on us.

This is no where near over. IN DC, we've had a steady drizzle since last night. And barely any wind. The forecast says the worst of the winds will hit after 8pm tonight.

Worse case scenario is that the storm stalls over the area and continues to dump rain along with high winds. I just hope I dont lose power.

FWIW, NYC shut down its trains and buses. I cant remember that happening before. And of course DC Metro followed suit once the gov't announced they were closed for the day.

^Yup, NYC transit shut down 7:00 PM last night, NJ transit is also now shut down.
hannibal wrote:Worse case scenario is that the storm stalls over the area and continues to dump rain along with high winds.
This is going to happen, and its what is going to cause the most trouble in NJ (obviously). We flood here when 2" of snow melts, there are just so many rivers in the area the water has no where to go. If this storm takes the track its currently being modeled to the rivers are going to be fed for the entire week.

Rain just started...

I know!! I reserved that game (and new ps3 bundle) months ago. Ill be sad if I cant do anything but sit here and read the back of the game case for days on end if the power is out :( Woke up this morning to the same drizzle as last night. I guess its alittle more windy but yeah, the best of it will be right at midnight release. Also what great timing for Halloween night in the far Northeast states.

Not only the jet stream but the high pressure system over the Great Lakes will slightly add to its strength.

Pretty much everything is gonna be shut down for the next 48 hours. In Philly, SEPTA (mass transit) is closed. DE, PA, NJ all declared states of emergencies, not much is gonna move around here for a day or so.

In my neighborhood, it's not as much the flooding as power outages. My town has a lot of big old trees many of which are near power lines. Those along the Delaware River , particularly on the Trenton side, have to worry about both. With all the development that has been going on in recent years, what rain used to get absorbed by farmland, now goes by storm drain into the river resulting in annual 100 yr floods.

Yep. I'm sure he's safe 80' above the sand, but I'm curious how high above sand his car is...

We've got some ripping winds here and loads of rain. At work here we're as inland as you can get in the safest harbor and there are already some obvious signs that the water has risen, as well as WAY more chop than usual. If Brian has storm surge there in NYC already, it'll probably be a couple of hours before we have it.

The cities around us are without power, its probably a matter of time here. Very likely its already gone at home, too.

Just got back from a drive from Baltimore. We got 50 mph gusts that try to sweep your car off the freeway and sheets of cold rain coming off 18 wheelers that have no respect for the weather and other drivers who must go slow because of the conditions.. Also, Idiots without lights on and people going over 70 mph. Yay.

Mandatory evacuation is a legal issue... there is no 911, fire, emt, police etc... They cannot FORCE you to leave, and Long Beach is full of people who hold their ground... I am on the ocean, but on the 7th floor... My car is parked in the middle of long beach, between the ocean and the bay... Historically water has never crossed from the ocean to the bay (IN THE LOCATION I PARKED, west end it has crossed many times)....

Check out the youtube videos... I just got out of the water!

Local broadcast (News 12 NJ) reporting Atlantic City is for the most part destroyed. Rain is officially flying sideways outside my door. Landfall is still a few hours away. Im actually feeling better about my situation, believe it or not.

Im surprised Brian still has power (or does he?). Tall Matt posted that he lost power at 9:00 AM and they are not far from each other on Long Island.

EDIT: LBC IS ALIVE!

^All Im saying is I saw you on the damn sand, dont get washed away.

So now the local news is saying that rain/flooding wont be an issue for us, which is a HUGE relief. Power outages will still be a problem, but I haz fire and Sirloin Burger soup...
