As some of you might remember I hit a deer with my beloved Hardbody last September, the night before the Nissan/Datsun Tour de Marque at Watkins Glen. Thought I would give everyone a little update. The truck was towed to Riter Restorations, owner and builder of the Datsun 620 Bonneville Salt Flat race truck that was featured in NSM last year. The truck went on the frame puller to have the inner fender reshaped the other day and the results were amazing! I know a lot of members don't stop the Truck forum very often so here's a few pics of the green truck's rebirth.

If you look closely at the first pic you will see my truck is in the company of an Aston Martin wayyy in the background.

I believe it's a DB4. It's not the James Bond car. I know too little about Astons.

My story has been all about the people I have met while working on this project. The fact that my truck is sitting in the same building as the Datsun 620 salt flat racer truck and the Cannonball Datsun 510 makes me want to pinch myself and check my pulse. It's truly amazing what has been happening since the accident. I have so many people to thank.

Riter's is more excited about my truck than I am, I guess. Barry bought his own Hardbody after seeing mine. He also got ahead of me and welded in the core support yesterday. No pics till Saturday. Right front door and left 4wd fender are on order and should be here Friday. This project is flying now!

Are you going to keep the truck green, or do a full repaint?

As of today. Core support is fully welded in. Inner fender rust hole has been patched up and both 4wd fenders have been hung.

Well the news is the used hood I got is OK for a beater but not for a truck getting refreshed. I ordered an OEM hood for a 1990 style Hardbody.

Need I say more?

Well I am going to anyway.

Sanded my first fender ever!

New 'old style' hood. Hurry there are only 18 of these left at the Nissan warehouses.

This is how it looked when I walked in at 9AM this morning before we got to sanding the fenders. They were able to fix the original door!!

I definitely prefer that vented hood over the later one.

UPDATE 5/26/2012:

I sanded the hood yesterday and my whole body aches today. Won't be taking up car sanding as a profession anytime soon.

The hood in factory primer.
Image

After 2 hours with the DA sander. 120 grit to 220 finally using 320 grit. I also scuffed up the bottom of the hood because paint doesn't stick to shiny stuff.
Image

If all goes to plan the paint should be done by this coming Saturday. I could be driving this thing again by mid June if I play my cards right.

Needs to be wet sanded of course and I have a surprise coming that I don't want to spoil...plus we have to iron out the details. For now the truck will head back to my house to begin being put back together. Never thought I'd be this far this fast but good people around you make things happen. Stay tuned as we continue to build.

That looks really good. Are you having any fitment issues from the wreck (doesnt look like it)? I see the new rad support.

The body line is good but the right front fender is ever so slightly tweaked. Also still soaking in the 4wd fender look. I know I like it but I have to keep asking myself if this is my truck?

It official! She's home!! Next step is to finish outfitting her. Remembering where everything went will be a challenge, my memory isn't what it used to be but that's half the fun! Riter's is the place to go if you drive a Nissan truck, that's my personal testimony. On to the pics!

This is where I might go with it. Still so many parts to get before I can drive it.

Stage 2 of the body process will begin sometime in August or around and I think you guys will like where we are going with this. I know I've opened Pandora's body work box but loving every minute of it.
