I've always been a big fan of PB Blaster, and I use about 2 cans a year here in my garage. Never thought there was something better - Check it out!!!

Courtesy of GRM:

So you deal with a lot of rusty nuts? Go down to the hardware store and buy some acetone, a quart of Dexron Mercon and a refillable spray bottle. In the spray bottle mix the ATF and acetone in a 1:1 mixture.

Spray away and get your nuts loose!

Independent testing of penetrating oils using a single steel bar with 1/2”x20 nuts torqued to 50 ft/lbs and treated with a 10% salt water solution that was allowed to rust. Listed are the chemicals and required removal torque.

-None ………………… 516 pounds

-WD-40 ……………… 238 pounds

-PB Blaster …………. 214 pounds

-Liquid Wrench ….. 127 pounds

-Kano Kroil ………… 106 pounds

-ATF-Acetone mix….53 pounds

Does ATF-Acetone mix have practical uses in the bedroom?

Also this is awesome!

Would out find ATF and acetone in a parts store? Is this mix expensive?

cheaper than pb blaster. total, you'd probably spend somewhere around 10 bucks, but for that, you could have 1/2 gallon worth of rust penetrant.

I'll give it a shot next time I have a bad bolt. Usually if my impact cant take care of it, I bring out my angle grinder/sawzall.

Kroil is the SHT. Omfg, if you get your hands on some you will never use WD, PB blaster, or any of that crap again. I got my hands on some and a good supplier of it about a year ago, and its all we use now.

To bad it smells like cancer.

Neat about the ATF/Acetone, however i mean the kroil is availible in big cans and by the box so, i doubt its practical enough to be used on a wide scale.

I used to use a mixture of acetone and white gas. Worked amazing, but I'm pretty sure the fumes melted half my brain.

WD-40 will loosen rusted bolts? Seriously, when was the last time anyone tried that and had it work?

Thanks for the info.

Does it matter what type of ATF... M1 or Redline synthetic or regualr Dextron 3?

neato.

I'll try to remember this...

<---keeps a baggie of used coffee grounds by the dawn bottle.

I figured this would be a thread about hammers and torches.

I would imagine it would have to do with it both being an oil to lubricate, and having a ton of detergents to help break up gunk.... Just grab what ever :P

Greg, you tried this? Do the two mix well?

I <3 GRM :P

what, the coffee grounds?

use it with dawn to wash your hands after working on a car.

dawn is one of the best degreasers out there, it just lacks the grit that's crucial to scrub off the funk from cars.

the coffee grounds provide this. It seriously works better than any handcleaner I've ever tried. A hell of a lot cheaper if you're a coffee drinker too

wonder if dawn and salt would work good... would be cheaper for those of us who hate coffee, and should be grittier?
