I've been driving the 2011 Nissan Juke--and had the Viper Smart Start remote starter installed in the first week. Since I live in snow country with a 5-month winter, it's been the greatest investment ever. I had planned to uninstall the system from the Juke and have it moved to the Rogue. However, I discovered it's almost all different parts. No problem, the Nissan dealership is giving me a $2,800 trade-in value on the Juke (even though it's leased...I have low miles and it looks great).

But now I can't find a Smart Start system (that works from iPhone) that is made for the Rogue yet. With it being a new model, the wiring diagrams aren't available yet. They say it could be several months.

Any one else had any luck finding one that works?

Hi! Welcome aboard! Unfortunately the 2014 is just too much of a redesign to give a good answer. As you've already encountered, they're scarce on car lots, and Nissan won't have the Field Service Manual available until the end of the month.

I know it's not what you're hoping to hear, but their assessment that it's going to take several months is about right. :frown:

AMF -

What brand of kit did you use? And were there instructions specifically for this vehicle or did you have to improvise? I have a customer that wants one and we haven't been able to get a solid answer from our remote start and security suppliers.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

:welcome: Rocketcoffin, are you at a dealership or local shop? Please take a moment to introduce yourself.
I wouldn't hold out too much hope for help from AMF. He's not in the continental US.

I use Compustar CM6200 Starters.

To do non PTS vehicles (base model) with regular key, no bypass is necessary.
Ignition & start wires are negative. Brake, door locks can be found at BCM. A key wrap is necessary for transponder bypass.
If you are an authorized Directechs dealer you have all the info available there.

The PTS is a different story, I worked hard to figure it out and will not give up my findings.

I am in Quebec, Canada
I have been doing installations for over 25 years.
I have a large base of new car dealers that I sale and install starters for.

Good for you, AMF.
I'm in the same situation as faithntim, have talked to installers referred by my dealership and all say the same (gonna be awhile before they have the info needed to do a proper remote start install). Please keep this thread updated as I'd like to get this done as soon as it's possible - also I welcome any insight or recommendations. I'm in the Chicago area and with the cold weather we've been having I can't wait to make this happen.

Occasionally I send an email to the techs at Directed Electronics to get an update on when I might expect the Viper SmartStart to be available for the 2014 Rogue. I got this reply back yesterday:

"At this time there is not an update. If you really want to remote start your vehicle, there is a bypass module called a 556U, but it would require to give up a key to the system."

I have no idea what that means--can anyone explain?

That mean you have to keep a key inside the car at all time (giving up a key)

So, I checked out the link and it looks like good news, but what does that mean for me the consumer? Does this mean that Viper SmartStart installers can now install it on my car? If not, does it mean there is another system that is controllable from an iPhone that will work on the 2014 Rogue now?

my understanding is that you still have to install a Viper system and add the smart start feature, but it all goes back to the fact that you have to sacrifice a key fob

Hey All,

New Nissan owner here!

I just pre-ordered my Rogue a few days ago and have been looking for a remote starter. I personally would not use the module in the link above because if you keep the smart key in the vehicle at all times it thinks you are in the vehicle at all times and in turn keeps your car unlocked.

Check out this video: http://youtu.be/Aymp7Ewc1Kc

Let me know what you think.

As the video states, that is only if the installer doesn't know what he/she is doing. Keeping 1 key in the car is not a problem with these systems as long as the installer does it right.

UPDATE: I was able to find a CompuStar installer who is able to put in a Remote Start using the Drone Mobile iPhone app for control. However, I would have to drive a couple hours to get it put on. Didn't want to do that.

Then I found out my local installer can install the Viper SmartStart module (my preference). He originally thought he couldn't as the equipment for the 2014 is called "2014 Rogue Intelligent Key" instead of "2014 Rogue PTS" -- he indicates it is the same thing, but they changed the name. He will have to keep one of the FOB's, but I'm okay with that. And unlike a previous comments indicated--this has no bearing on security if it is installed correctly.

I will have it installed early next week, so I will let you all know if it really happens.

Definitely following this. I contacted viper about my smart start and they're still working on this. I'm not thrilled about leaving a key in the car but if I have to go this route I will. No remote start sucks in the winter

Hey all -- here is the latest. I went back to Auto One in Mishawaka (Indiana) with my 2011 Juke. They were able to remove the Viper Smart Start the day before my lease was up. Then I returned the Juke and picked up my 2014 Rogue SL AWD. Took it to Auto One and they had found a part that allowed them to install the Viper Smart Start.

Both cars were "push-to-start" systems. However, unlike the Juke install, which required no additional key, with the Rogue install I had to give up the 2nd FOB key. They installed this in the car.

When I got the car back, everything worked great-- EXCEPT one big problem. When I engaged the remote start (either from iPhone or from 3 presses on the factory remote) it started fine. BUT it didn't require a key to drive away. Not a good thing.

So I took it back, and they connected it to the drivers door handle. So I can remote start it. But when I open the door it kills the ignition. My car is still warmed up, but I have to re-start it when I'm ready to go. A little bit of a disappointment, but the installer told me that isn't too uncommon with many models of cars. Once the Rogue has been out longer, they probably will have the parts to avoid this.

Other than that, I'm very happy. My account with Viper Smart Start went with the module, so I didn't lose the 10-month I had left on my annual account.

I dealer told me he is installing the Remote Start on my new Nissan Rogue SL AWD + Premium Pk that has the push button start. Will this be a problem - basically will it compromise security and why would a fob have to be given up?. I'm scheduled to pick up my new car on Monday, let me know if I have to tell them to not do it - hoping it's not started.

We just had the dealer install the Viper 4205v remote start (and had to give up one keyfob; or pay for an additional one, however you want to look at it).

I wish the remote start itself is a bit more configurable: the engine now switches off when opening the door after the car has been remote-started; the parking lights are blinking constantly after the car has been remote-started.

According to the manual, these settings are not standard - so i guess i need to go back to the dealer with the car and have them adjust it.

For reference, the same remote starter was installed in our 2012 Altima; and it did not exhibit this behavior. So it must be something that the installer can adjust.

But, it is possible to have your 2014 Rogue equipped with a remote start!

Not sure what you mean by 'not ready yet'.

When I click the remote, the car starts. When I click/ hold it again, the car stops. It also unlocks the car when using a certain clock/hold combination.

This version of the Viper remote starters is 'older', but already established. It's the same version that was placed in my 2012 Altima...

I feel that's the case for other things in this car as well - light in glove box, height-adjustable seats (for passenger), heated steering wheel, etc.

Sat in a Jeep Cherokee, that did have a passenger-adjustable seat (other than move forward / backward). I also noticed in most of the new Chrysler/Jeep/Ram cars that they are now being offered with built-in 110v outlets (switch-offable). Nice for camping, when you need to operate that blender for margaritas.

Looks like these things are reserved for a higher 'bracket' - maybe cars that head into the low $40k ?

As I'm still comparing the Rogue SL, Terrain SLT1, Equinox LT2, and Cherokee Limited, it is disheartened to see that only Nissan does not have standard remote start in the SL. The other 3 listed do, and are easily under 30K after negotiating. I believe built in 110v outlets are standard as well.

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a new Rogue and would like to install a remote start. The dealership said they do not a stock one to put in, so I'll have to do an aftermarket. Does anyone recommend a remote start system?

Thanks

Hey all, I've been patiently waiting for the bypass module from Viper/Directed. Anyone have any news on an ETA, winter is coming quickly. I loved the SmartStart system on my Juke and now very disappointed if I can't have it on my Rogue. I'm almost ready to give up a key. Thanks!

I ordered my SL AWD back in February and was told a Remote Start would be available by the time it came in by late April. Well it was not so i told the dealership that the deal was off. Miraculously 2 days later I had my remote start and it works right off the Factory fob that came with the vehicle (and starts the engine by hitting lock x 2). I'm not really sure how they did it but they did. I've come to find out I have one of the only 14 Rogues on the road with "factory" remote start. It works flawlessly and I even asked the service manager what they did but he just said they fanagled some parts from the '14 Pathfinder to make it happen. Not much help to all of you, I know, but if they did it for me they can do it for you too and I didn't have to give up one of the fobs that I've heard some other people have resorted to.

skit2900, where are you located? Can you give me the name of your dealer? I'm in Cleveland and would hope that my dealer can do the same thing.

Thanks!
