Anyways, I am curious a lightweight crank pulley would be worth changing and if it is safe and what not. Will it really be worth adding for additional HP gain?

Thanks,

SV

to me, its not about the hp gain with the crank pulley but more of raising the efficiency of the car. on my other cars, ive changed the pulley. the cars engine seems to rev easier and when the a/c's on the car doesnt feel as much bogged down. i think for what its worth, its totally worth it =)

Hey thanks for the reply. Anyways I would like more HP gain as I feel the CAI really didn't do that much.

I think the pulley would be worth it, but I wouldn't suggest the manufacturer. ZPI has a habit of giving poor customer service to their products that fail.

Well tell you this much, I ordered the pulley, got it with in 3 days and installed it. I didn't have any issues and the product quality is one of the best I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot). I could feel an instance change in the car and a big change in that over rev problem I had. Just my two cents and take it for what is it worth.

I think ZPI might be claiming 30hp, not Brian Fox.

I know Brian to be an honest guy, so I wouldn't attribute that number to him...

The bottom line is, for a simple pulley to make a 30+% difference, it would have to be attached to a supercharger pushing 5 psi.

Girls and boys, it's once again time for "Car Ignorance" with Kmbr!

What is a crank pulley?? What does it do?? Why do I want to replace it??

First, the crank pulley is the main pulley on the end of the crank that drives the accessories -- alternator, water pump, and air conditioning compressor.

it replaces the stock crank pully, the only differance between the ZIP one and the stock is that the ZPI is lighter and dosent add hp but frees some up.

You also might want to check out: http://www.machv.com/tip11cranpul.html for more information.

it is something you can do yourself with some basic mechanic skills, and the proper tools which includes a torque wrench.

I seriously doubt that there was a 30 HP increase. Remember that a lot of the huge number gains in HP and Torque may not be to the peak HP and torque. SO it's possible that somewhere in the RPM range there was a 30 HP increase but the peak HP may have only increased by say 2. The pulley system free's HP as opposed to making more HP. If you can buy from a worthy manufacturer it's well worth it and very safe. Get a shady company and the harmonics from rotation may be off and you'll have problems.

just letting everybody know, i bought the pulley from ZPI like 3 days ago. and got it yesterday. got it installed today. and i have noticed a difference in the torque and my rpm's are much higher. there is no 30 HP gain whatsoever. as i expected. ha. but i definitely think it is worth buying this. it feels really good.

Located in Indiana, PA... they have a dyno there. That was the first PA business that popped up under google search "vehicle dyno pennsylvania"

Hello,

I was wondering on how difficult is to install it...I checked the the location of the pulley and it is very tight...was it necessary to disassemble much or not?

Thanks,
