my friend and i set about doing the swap in his garage on sunday. he had most of the necessary tools, minus the transmission jack.
it was an uneventful install for the most part. we noticed the bolt holes for the pressure plate to flywheel were a bit wider, so we had to ream them a bit.
from the website RE: the Nismo slave : "When using with NISMO racing clutch kit, this product changes heavy clutch pedal feeling to lighter feeling. Bigger cylinder diameter (20.54mm) comparing with standard one (19.05mm) enables you to control clutch pedal much easier. Best matched with NISMO racing clutch series."
now, you all may be wondering, what's 1.5mm of cylinder bore going to do? that's only 7% bigger, right? we bled the system at the master, the slave, and at the clutch cooler block (everyone have one of these things? my car's RHD so i'm curious), thinking there was an air bubble. we bled the entire system two times. i still can't believe how the clutch feels like stock.
it may also have to do with the clutch and pressure plate. the pressure plate looked like a "heavy duty" unit with less fingers and heat treated tips. i'm also using a 6 puck sprung clutch.
anyway, engagement is around the same place as stock, and it's pretty much on/off engagement. as soon as it's broken in, i'll be able to give a more detailed review.
The JUN 5.4 kg flywheel reverberates in the driveline a little more off-throttle, but acceleration felt smooth. starting from a stop was a little tricky, and deceleration in gear was so fast i nearly stalled a couple times. but none the less, i expected much harsher engagement with the clutch, and an unforgiving start from a stop.
