Ok, I accidently switched my fuel lines when swapping the motor. I fixed them and now Im trying to start it and I hear this LOUD popping noise coming from header / transmission area. I mean LOUD. I don't know if it's the motor trying to fire or not but my exhaust isn't connected to my header yet because previous exhaust was welded, so I have to do the same this time. Except I will need to drive it like this to where I get it welded. I'm kinda hoping that's all it is, which means my motor is actually trying to fire but this is something that's like really damn loud, I'll be scaring people driving by haha. I'm afraid to continue trying to start it like that, but if that's just from not having exhaust connected then I'll go with it with peace of mind knowing it won't damage anything :-) Thanks all!

Its' practically impossible to keep a stable idle w/ a header only--not enough backpressure. Good way to catch something on fire too. Be smart and just have it towed to where the place is gonna do your welding work.

I've held steady idle plenty of times with only a header on. It's loud as hell, but didn't affect the idle.

Yep, come to find out it was backfiring. I adjusted the timing a bit and switched my plug wires around haha... can't believe I had those on wrong parts of the distributor. I got it to actually fire up and idle but it sounds like a tractor in a garage or something, loud as hell. Anyway, I f'd up the timing trying to get it straight and ended up burning up my new starter.... oh well off to auto parts store to buy another.
