Actually, I've read that the Japanese convertibles were all SR20DET and 5 speed. Of course this wasn't from Nissan itself, but some Australian car magazine ad online I read a few years ago. They said they were all produced with that due to the extra weight. Regardless I don't think anyone on here knows the real deal unless you've actually talked to a historian at Nissan or something, and then again who knows if you could special order it with different options. All I know is that the Japanese convertibles, even the newer S15 Varietta, are fairly rare and hard to come by. There used to be a nice white Varietta close to where I lived that I'd see all the time, but it didn't look as sexy as a hardtop S15, but cool none the less and begging for a DET.
