So I finally finished with finals and what not for spring term and am flying home tomorrow!! I don't want to waste any time with the install of my zeitronix zt-2, which arrived at home today.

Zeitronix's "installation instructions" aren't very helpful...

For those of you using Zeitronix or other wideband 02 set ups, where are you getting your RPM signal? It'd be very easy to tap into the consult port to get this reading, but I do not want to not be able to use the consult port in the future for data logging....

Nonetheless, if I do tap into the consult port, does anyone know WHICH pin is the RPM signal? Searched and couldn't find a pin-out for the CONSULT port (found lots of useful info about the ECU pins and what they read, however).

Thanks in advance,

Marc

The FSM won't give info on the consult port?

Nope, FSM doesn't tell me WHAT pin transmits the RPM signal....

The thing is, there's only 5 wires going to the connector on the blitz unit, yet it reads 20+ parameters...and 2 of those wires are for power and ground. So 3 of the wires are controlling quite a bit.

What the FSM does say isn't very useful for me:

One is "SCIRX," One is "SCITX"One is "SCICL"

Not to mention, the Zeitronix instructions says that the RPM input is a 0-12 volt square wave, whereas the FSM says that the tach signal wire is approximately 0.9 volts...

The main problem is that the Zeitronix is made to be universal...

However, it can run without the tach signal; I just want the signal for when I eventually data log (and eventually drive the damn car! weather's been horrible here and will be for the next week )

Heya Mark,

I think your car is a 1995?

Listed in the stickied thread is a link that has a bunch of KA ECU pinout diagrams. Heres a direct link to the thread:

zerothread?id=126070

Following the links to the S14 we get this:

http://www.az240sx.org/tech/Pi...T.xls

According to that, pin #3 as drawn on the diagram is the tach signal. Color is shown as Yellow with a Red stripe.

Tap into that one and see how it works out

Haha, c'mon Foster, have a little more faith in me, I checked out the stickies first! I downloaded all those pin-outs...I'd never not search because I can't stand posts about stuff that has already been covered....

I'm concerned because the tach signal is 0.9 v but the zeitronix says it uses a 0-12 v square wave?!?!

I was just wondering what other people did...I know theres SOMEONE on here that has the Zeitronix installed...i figured said person would chime in. I'll play around with it though.

I'm probably making it too simple (I don't even know what a square wave is) but I think all it needs is any kind of tach signal, so you could take it from the ecu just like any other electronic device. that's where I hooked up mine....but I haven't datalogged with it yet.

Do you have the Zeitronix as well? As long as the RPM on the zeitronix display matches the RPM on the tach, it's accurate enough for me...does yours match reasonably well?!?

A square wave would mean it was digital, and presumably the output of .9v would be analog (it would have a rounder wave). Have you called Zietronix to find out if there is an adaptor?

I have a 91 ecu and used Fizzy`s diagram worked fine for me. I am also using the electronic boost adapter as well, comes in handy when tuning. The RPM seems to be close the the RPM gauge.

I have the Zeitronix connected to a palmpilot(datalogging) and the RPM work fine connected to the tach signal coming off of the ECU.

yup, tach signal is fine... lol not to be picky but a 0-12v square wave would be rediculous... just tap the rpm signal and be done with it... tried and true haha just went out and did another log tonight... been logging fine for the past year and a half
