The keyway slot in the drive gear for the pump is only for you to be able to slide it over the main engine pulley key. The reasoning for the torque spec on the main pulley is for a friction fit to the oil drive gear. I wondered the same thing too, as to why the oil drive gear had a keyway, but no key. q45tech on these boards explained the reasoning for the friction fit of that drive gear. It has to do with cold engine starting and thick oil.

Where did you see this. Just trying to see fully what your referring to as I think I missed it.speedeast wrote:That's cool, not bad news at all. I can remove it easy enough, the crankshaft isn't torqued down yet... Need a strong enough torque wrench. Thanks for that input; I tried finding it myself. Hooah!

Great!speedeast wrote:Thanks guys for all the awesome comments! The car is now at home in VA! WooT!
I think you could do it yourself but you can also go to a local place and it shouldn't cost you that much. It should be similar price to a full car paint job and cheaper than a two ton as they only have to mark/tap it off once not first do the upper then do the lower... From my experience.speedeast wrote:I can see a fade paint job costing me a fortune. I like the idea. I also like dark metallic blues. I am a big fan of British Racing Green.
