I'll take all the drill and pt they want to do, but this uniform inspection every freaking day crap is just annoying...

Hate to be a bearer of bad news, but that keyway thing that you made for the oil pump. The keyway slot in the drive gear for the pump is only for you to be able to slide it over the main engine pulley key. The reasoning for the torque spec on the main pulley is for a friction fit to the oil drive gear. I wondered the same thing too, as to why the oil drive gear had a keyway, but no key. q45tech on these boards explained the reasoning for the friction fit of that drive gear. It has to do with cold engine starting and thick oil.

Here is the thread in question

That's cool, not bad news at all. I can remove it easy enough, the crankshaft isn't torqued down yet... Need a strong enough torque wrench. Thanks for that input; I tried finding it myself. Hooah!

Where did you see this. Just trying to see fully what your referring to as I think I missed it.

If you look back a few pages, one of my updates outlines the creation and installation of a tiny little key that I used to lock the oil pump sprocket in place. I can yank it back out Saturday night when I get back out there; it doesn't even have to come out of the car.

Just saw the tub related question, but I meant tub the front end, as in make new wheel wells. It allows you to run a wider tire and not have it rub the inside of the wheel well at full lock. People usually do it if they plan on drifting the car, but your fab skills seem up to par and you had the engine out so I figured it'd be a good thing to do. A friend of mine rubs the inner wheel well at full lock with 225 50's on a x8 0 offset wheel, and that's not even a wide tire.

Honestly, I didn't want to sacrifice an inch of space under the hood. I'll run a lower profile tire if I must. I appreciate the heads up and the compliments. I might consider tubbing the next one. I'm not sure if I mentioned it in this thread, but it's all coming back out next year for upgraded internals and forced induction. If I find a sister shell and engine, then this car will stay as is. I've seen some successfully tubbed S14s; I think I'll be ok though.

1 more day of Ft. Drum!!!

Well guys, I'm back from Fort Drum and have begun throwing things together. Even though most of what I'm doing now is to accommodate the trip to Virginia, I wanted to share with you guys.

Time for the rear suspension!

I needed to put the wiring in the car in order to put the fenders on and make it trailer-able. "Here ya go Russ!"

And she's getting her s*** together...

I don't have any more pictures or time to put them up, but I installed the driveshaft and wheels all the way around. I was able to then set her down. She's on a trailer with most of the contents of my garage right now. I'm hitting the open road here in about an hour.

I suppose I need to start looking for a place to work on her at.

I am questioning the paint options. I haven't yet 100% decided on a color. I was stuck on Gloss Black for a long time, but the closer I get to painting it, the more I am still up in the air.

What do you guys think? Interior will remain black regardless. I don't want anything too flashy. I like darker colors. The two tone: color bottom, black top is also on the shelf...
Please share.

What about a two tone Wine with black combo.

Of fade from front to back deep red to black.

I'm personally a fan or dark metallic blue's

I can see a fade paint job costing me a fortune. I like the idea. I also like dark metallic blues. I am a big fan of British Racing Green.

I think you could do it yourself but you can also go to a local place and it shouldn't cost you that much. It should be similar price to a full car paint job and cheaper than a two ton as they only have to mark/tap it off once not first do the upper then do the lower... From my experience.

But personally I think the blue would look tits on this car! :)

Check the metallic blue on the 2010 Mazda 3. It's Puuuurfect and will be the color I paint mine when it's ready.

^If you're going to paint your car that color, would you really want mine to be the same? I have been debating using the color from my 2006 Mazda 6:

Do it, or make it a midnight blue.

I just love dark colors.
