Hi guys i don't post much here on the 240sx forum since i have Z32 and not a 240sx, anyway i wanted to share an interesting find that im not sure anybody knows... here we go

My coworker/buddy has an RB20det in his s13 and he doesn't have power steering ...the car didn't come with a P/S pump when he got it anyway he started to look what kind of pump he can use or where he can locate an RB20det pump for his car for okay money but nothing, so we started thinking and researching i found somewhere the Z32 pump and the RB20DET pump use the same rebuild kit so i was like hmmm my Z32 twin turbo engine is still on the engine stand (upgrading the motor and maintenance) so to help him out, i said lets try and see if a Z32 can work so i took the pump off my engine (HICAS pump) and see if it fitted in his bracket and guess what i believe me and him may have found a shocking discovery for the rb20det P/S shortage pump dilemma. That thing fit right in snug (maybe we have to add 1 washer we are still test fitting) only thing is pump is reversed (like flipped in a mirror since now the pump sits on the driver side of the engine instead of the passenger side where it sits in a Z32) anyway i gave him my hicas pump in return for an NA pump, bracket and some other stuff to delete my Hicas in my car. So the other day we test fitted the pump in the car and bam it bolted up, the only thing so far we see as being an issue is that the banjo bolt is on the bottom facing down and the line does not reach, we are gonna see if we can mod the line by taking the car to a place that does custom hoses for P/S lines to coolant hoses. Will let you know what happens next Gonna take pics of the DIY once he gives me what i want as a trade for my pump lol

Also since its a Hicas pump you have to also weld that part that you would normally do if it was a hicas rb20det pump going in a non hicas car with a RB20det

So are we saying that only the hicas pump will work or that seemingly any z32 pump will work but you have to custom lines?

I also am piecing an RB20det together and I have no PS pump, so I am definitely going to look in to this.

Breadbox not any Z32 pump will work because the NA z32 pump does not fit in the RB20DET bracket me and my buddy already eliminated that possibility. (He bought an NA Z32 pump without checking it if it was the same, he thought it was the same just lighter [because the hicas pump is kinda heavier compared to the NA lol] but it is not same)

You will need a Z32 TT Hicas pump and im telling you that pump fits snug in the bracket, me and him were shocked when i put my pump in his bracket, we are still debating on whether we should even put 1 washer to make it fit tighter (if one fits lol)

Me and him are gonna work on his S13 this coming Saturday hopefully (since its his day off) at the dealership where we both work at as Techs. I told him i was gonna post a D.I.Y if successful which so far its looking like it will be.

This is so far as i know guys will post pictures as well on the install this weekend if everything goes well.

-The Hicas z32 pump will clear without hitting the Turbo, (behind the pump there is still space). We ruled this by bolting it up to the car pretending it was going to be installed
-Your gonna have to have the hicas portion welded like a RB20 hicas pumps
-The powersteering (high pressure line) that has the banjo bolt will have to be redone (because the line does not reach and when i mean not reach i mean barely not reach its super close but nope plus the bend at the end of the line makes it impossible to bolt on flush on the pump so we are gonna have to modify that as well (all this shouldn't cost much especially if you know someone since the line only needs to be extended a little and mod where the banjo bolt goes thru)
-Reservoir hose reaches
-Still trying to see what drive belt to use

If this works i believe (and this is only a theory now) That the RB20DET (from a R32) and VG30DETT are the same pump just flipped. (Remember the RB20DET came out on a R32 RWD GTS-T at the same time Nissan also came out with the Z32 300ZXTT, maybe Nissan made the same pump (to reduce production costs) for both cars but slightly modified the lines and the pump themselves so them may fit in the car they were going in). Plus i also seen somewhere that the pump rebuild kit for the RB20DET pump is the same as the Z32's but the post was very vague and never went into depth. My goal is to go into depth to see if its true.
will keep you posted if this works. Like i said this is an experiment to see if we can use my twin turbo Z pump on his car
