I keep finding threads for people using the Z32 NA diff in the S13 with the alternate S13 outdrives, or the J30 outdrives. (yes I searched before asking this)

Has anyone swapped JUST the viscous limited slip diff carrier of the z32 diff, (diff internals, without ring and pinion) into the S13 case ? I ask because I have the gear to swap the lsd unit and I can get a Z32 na VLSD comeplete for super cheap.

Thanks!

NA Z32s are R200 units, and plenty of people have swapped the guts of their diffs over the years. Just search for anything regarding an R200 rebuild or internal swap.

From my experience dealing with diff rebuilds, be prepared to spend a fair bit of change on the shims. A lot of the math gets you into the ballpark of the shim thickness, but it becomes a test fit trial and error to get the shimming set properly. The shims aren't cheap. I've been lucky in the past as the shops I've done the work in had stockpiles of shims.

Well, from the look of it. It's either that or buy outdrives that cost 180 bucks each from nissan lol. I also wouldn't mind keeping it looking "stock". For reference what model is the open diff s13? FYI, I try to search for things like this and all I get is results for people changing out the diff assembly (assembled case with drive flanges). I have experience doing ring and pinions so I am not super stressed about it. I even have access to a surface grinder if I need to make small adjustments to hardened shims. While I am at it I might replace the bearings just for funzies.

Just wanted to make sure the parts would fit without a lot of nonsense parts from all over the world. Thanks for the info Hijacker.

The nice thing with R200s is that the parts availability is pretty great. really the biggest issue is getting the shims. If you have any sort of experience in rebuilding a diff, it's a straightforward process. I've just seen too many kids in my years swap the guts and not reshim. It doesn't take long for them to complain about rattling and knocking in their diffs.
