okay so when i got my car some previous owner had hacked the wiring harness leading to the headunit to peices. didnt just disconnect it, just cut it. after about 7 hours of trouble shooting i got my headunit in it and it works, somehow. im finally thinking about getting around to fixing it but im not exactly sure how much i need to replace. my dash light dont work at all when i turn my lights on and my antenna goes up about half the time i turn my car on. anyone with experience dealing with this please help. its a wiring nightmare.

Welcome, for starters.

And I have to say I hate ***hole previous owners. Cutting a harness, how ghetto can you be? Although, the car could have also been broken into.

That should help a bit. The antenna going on randomly is an issue. If it went up all the time, your antenna power wire is attached to a switched +12V source. On with the radio and it's going on with the amp turn-on wire most likely.

I'd get those if you don't have them already, and match up the pin-out to the diagram I gave you. I don't think colors will match, as the Z32 wiring doesn't use industry standards. Good luck, hope that helps.

alright i took the dash completely apart today. the wiring to the head unit is fixed. when i turn the lights on the head unit will dim, but the dash lights wont come on. the climate control led screen dims to where i can BARELY see it, its really low. but i can not adjust it with the brightness control. the fuses are good and so are the relays. all the wires going into each control pod are connected and the lightbulbs in the dash are good and all the wires going into the dash are connected. I am completely stumped as to what to check. i feel like it should work. If anyone knows something else to check, PLEASE tell me. i really need to fix this.

the antenna wire was connected to the back right speaker positive wire. so i fixed all that and the antenna only goes up when i turn the radio on. doesnt go up when a cd's in or my ipod's connected and playing.

Try disconnecting the illumination wires completely from the HU harness. Sounds like there's an issue with the illumination circuit.

Yep, then put a wire nut on them (separately) so they don't short out. If it works, then you have an issue with the way your illumination was hooked up.
