Hey guys. I'm new to the z32 world and I'm trying to learn this motor and these cars as I go along. But what brings me here today is this sound that just started happening the other night. It almost sounds like a tea kettle letting put steam. I've narrowed it down to the driver side somewhere by the turbos. There's no lack in performance, so could I have a bad exhaust leak on my hands? I was also thinking it might be the egr valve.

That would be the first actual whistling exhaust leak I've ever heard... Most of them make a "pffft" sound, from what I've heard, but then again, I haven't heard it all... It seemed to me it got worse with the rev, though. It's most likely a problem on the exhaust side, though, since there's no issue with idling or performance. I've got an old mechanic trick for you though. Take a length of hose, hold one end to your ear, and move the other end around and see where the noise is loudest. But I do think you're on the right track.

I'm almost positive I have it narrowed down to the egr system. I'm going to be doing my valve cover gaskets this weekend and I'll just do the delete while I have the plenum off. Hopefully that takes care of it, but I'll try the rubber hose trick and see if I can exactly pin point it. Would there be a reason to replace the egr valve vs deleting it?

Not unless you require emissions testing.
