Here's some pics of my weekend fab fest. Made a flexplate using the top half of a VH and the bottom half of a Z32 5 speed. It won't serve much for holding the trans to the engine but will help counteract torsional forces.

And here is Frankenpan. The sandblasted steel is the VH pan and the black painted steel is the VG30DE pan. I just cut the flange off the VH, moved the back of the VH pan to the front, put the sump of the VG on the rear of the VH pan and added in a piece of the VG pan to allow for the sump plumbing. It worked out beautifully and will allow me to keep the engine as low as possible and keep the oil quantity up also. I am thinking about welding in an oil level bolt hole because the factory dip stick used to go into the sump and now will go into the shallow part of the pan.

The pickups are also similar and will only require cutting the VH mount from the tube, weld on the VG tubing and adding a small section to get it back to the sump. Should work out nicely.

a flexplate is to an auto what a flywheel is to a manual.

Quit it, you're making me hungry...

lol I didn't know what to call it but flex plate seemed to fit. I always thought it was just to keep debris out but in my application it will also stiffen things up a bit as my aluminum welding leaves a LOT to be desired.

Why is it called a flex plate and not a flywheel?

Excellent Bart! My friend & I are fitting a VH41DE into his UC Sunbird, will have a very similar engine bay to yours.

Did you have to cut a lip off the chassis rails on each side so you could actually lower the engine right in there?

Hey, no fair! Why do the 4.1's get the aluminum pan and the 45's get steel? I guess there IS an upside to the 41 after all.... ahhahahahhahahah

lol... the 400cc's less is its only downside, seeing as it's superior in every other aspect

P.S. I know you're baiting, but I couldn't resist a bite!

See, you're making everyone hungry, including yourself. Maybe that will teach you to not bring up food in the VH section, that belongs in general chat.

Better make that 500cc's .040 over = 4591cc

Yes thats a -12 fitting so i can attach the braided hose to it from the oil pickup. (external oil poickup)Mettler, I know who you mean with the Sunbird, he posted a few pics of the conversion in the Torana forum where i normally hang out.The LH LX an UC toranas had the lip on the chassis rails mine is the LJ which hasnt got the lips, still tight fit may have to modify the rails, see how it goes.Just another shot of the braided hose for the oil pickup[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]
