I have heard that the Z32 oil filter is interchangeable with DOHC KA's. And that it is a better $ saver than ones bought elsewhere (ie Castrol, Mobil). Main reason that it does its job better. Anyone use one? Reason I ask is I am going to change oil + filter tomorrow (Mobil 1 SuperSyn 10W-90 that is).

I use a mustang filter on my CA(PH8A), I would on my RB but the damned thing wo't fit between the strut tower and the engine to screw it on! I think it would be safe to assume the KA has the same ability to use this filter.

So is the Z32 or Mustang filter bigger than the one on the KA?Is that why they filter better? DO they filter better? Anyone wanna explain?

well the whole thing with the filters is area. A good filter is a good filter as far as the particles it traps. The larger filter with the larger filtering area will flow the oil with less restriction and also filter longer as it will take longer to fill up with crud than the smaller one. At a certain pressure a bypass will open and allow oil back into the engine without being filtered, that's the spring loaded ball under the filter. Getting the oil filtered with the least resistance is the plan so the bigger filter is desirable. I remove this bypass from my engines so it's really important for me because while my oil will never feed to the engine without being filtered if the filter clogs I'm going to caugh up some rods! Whan the new motor goes into Damien it will get a remote filter with double stang filters.

Incidentally that's also why I run the 300ZX fuel filter.

Yeah, I got the 300ZX fuel filter too...do you think it could make my car run richer than usual (because of higher flow rate)? I think I've developed leaky injectors after I put it (300z fuel filter) in, although it could be just that their seals are 13 years old (probably). So is the particle filtering rating of the stang oil filter you have put in, as high/higher than that of the OE 240 filter? Again, IS the stang filter bigger? I know I'm being annoying, but you didn't answer that in the last post.

particle filtering is a function of the quality of filter you buy not the size. If you buy a huge K-mart filter it won't filter as well as a small high quality filter. I will flow great but won't filter for crap. I have been out of the states for too long to be current on the filters you have to choose from so I can't reccomend one. First find the biggest one that will fit past obstructions to put on and has the right O-ring size and thread pitch for the KA. Armed with that start checking the back of the boxes for how many microns it filters down to and get the best one you can find.

I would doubt the 300zx fuel filter would cause your mix to richen up unless the original one was restrictive above a certain RPM and causing you fuel rail pressure to drop and the mix to lean out as a result. If the bigger filter alleviated this your mix would richen but only to the point that the regulator is set for so it would run like it was designed to.

Is this the same guy from FA.com? I told you (if it is) I have a 60U00 (z32 oil filter) on my ka, and that it is the exact same size as the 55Y00 that nissan reccomends for the KA.

There is basically no difference between the two other then there is more filter exposed due to more holes in the inner cylinder wall of it... Thats it.

Why did I use it... Because the parts dept and my tech friend said they where going to stop making the 55y00 (then they where going to stop the 60u00 as well and know I cant rem whats going on, but no biggie either way) and since they only had two left and I needed two (one for me and one for my girls 92) they said to grab a 60u00, so I did.

No real benifit from using the 60u00, over the 55y00, other then its another option if the dealership doesnt stock it at the time you need it. Also unless you get them at tech / employee price, it wont be cheaper then the autoparts oil filters... I dont know what the average joe pays for the things at a dealership but Im guessing its in the range of 9$ vs the 4.90ish employee price. Either way I turst oem and would get either filter.

If you are that concerned just go grab a 55y00 (standard KA filter) from yourl local dealer. Since their is no real gain either way, at least youll have the peace of mind, since you seem to need it.

edit: just checked it is you from FA.com....

Haha yes I made a thread on FA and it got filled with confusion of people saying Z32 Filter not specifying oil or fuel. Thanks for posting twice though for clarification.
