Z32 no spark

YES i used search..but this forum is such a cluster f*** of threads I'm gonna make it easier on myself...


my friend is bringing over his Z32, it has no spark. i think the PO messed up the timing belt..as i sprayed started fluid into the driver side intake and air was spitting some of it back out.

I CAN'T get the cas out.

the plugs show no sign of sparking.

the car cracks very strong. no valve sounds.

injectors sounds like they're firing.

ill have more information later today, but any ideas would be beautiful

Easy watch the language please.

Your in the wrong section this belongs in the Z32 tech section. The easiest way to see if the plugs are getting fire is just pull each one out one by one then ground it against the plenum..

thought it was in the tech section lol too many forum options...


well..i have the car here...the cas is weird..it have 2 plugs 180* apart..never seen that before...hes using E3 spark plugs...where should i check first for no spark, there is no spark on any cylinder??

What year? I have never seen a dual plug cas. Maybe on the latest models like the 99 they had them, or he cas is from a diff car with similar engine like the pathfinder??? No idea bu check the wires for corrosion. Check the ptu. My guess is either the ptu, or a bad ground.

its a 7/89. I found the CAS (was in trunk) and spun it, no resistance at all, ill get a picture of the thing on the passenger side..no idea what its called

Edit: turns out what i was looking at, IS the PTU. how do i check if its bad? lol

i deal with Z31's..i hate them new fangled electronic things haha

my Z31 is a 4/87...this Z32 is a 7/89 lol must be one of the first...its N/A and automatic..i should check for codes!

hooked up a battery, CAS, and tried to start car..

all it does is "Wha whaa, wha whaa, wha whaa" security lights comes on with every "whaa" spun CAS, all injectors fire, couldn't hear fuel pump tho..injectors were really loud...

every 4-5 spins on the CAS a loud WHOOSH/POP would come from the driver side intake..crank was not moving tho..no clue what causes that... :wtf2:


Edit: when cranking the car the sound isn't there, there is a hum from the front of the car with key 'ON' i smell fuel so I'm guessing its the fuel pump going...sounds like it catches, but seems like the security system kills it...i need to check the relays next..

reviving my old thread, Turns out I may be owning this Z32, the owner never got around to fixing it..so I am going to splurge on a good PTU and hope the fixes the issue for the car not running. the car is missing a good bit of bolts though...I need to go through and hunt for them all haha


anything else I should look at while i am under the hood???
