Hi all well Im new to this, but I better get used to it quickly. My son has had a Zed for three years, the original engine the timing belt went and the pistons shook hands with the valves . OK got a wreck and swapped engine over, great ran well but wouldn't start when cold , yet would start when above 28 Celsius ambient , no codes on the diagnostic machinery.
In the end he gave up and parked it out back . I have acquired it now and as I am used to building High spec European 4 cyl twin cams from the 70's Mainly Lotus 900 series engines for race /Rally, I thought I would give it a go, so I stripped the original engine with the belt gone to find a scratch in the top of No 1 piston but the head on that cyl is damaged to the valve seat very lucky .
I scored a TT engine 300 bucks when I opened it up yep 300 bucks, it was rusted solid some one left it out with no manifolds on it or plugs in but the heads are in great condition bar 6 inlet valves rusted away on the seats. so I have replaced them and the lifters also they have been seriously flowed , these will go on top of the NA block,it had only done 48,000 klms
so I want to order new rings mains and rod bearings , the bores are fine and in fact the bearings are too but while its down might as well do the lot . were is the colour painted on the shells if there is any ??
I have the grades but the rod bearings have three std sizes in a colour code so how do I find out which without plastigage I have done a few mods to the block mainly on the oiling side and cleared all the dag's and flash casting out of the water ways .
Is there a high pressure/high volume oil pump available for these cars I have installed an oil cooler also fixed one of the pressure relief valves in the filter housing and used grub screws in the crankshaft oil ways were plugs were used, to hold increased oil pressure.
what cams to use bear in mind these are 40p turbo heads would u use the Nissan VVT solenoids or fixed cams with Vernier wheels ???? really would like to use it as a V fast road/track day car and or a wolf in sheep's clothing I am hoping that the knowledge on this site can at least put me in the right direction
. Also I want to keep it NA due to the fact if I sell it after the work has been done, some lucky P plater is going to have one very quick street legal car for his License .
suspension has all been worked with turret struts poly bushed on all joints coil overs its a bit of a mess paint wise Lacquer peeling and silver not so good in the Aussie sun , but this will be done when the engine and box are out
thanks in advance
chris
