First off been lurking and searching Nico for years, finally getting started on my project.

I have a 94 Q45 started my 5 speed swap a few weeks ago, ordered an aftermarket NA z32 flywheel. I know most people use the z32 starter, but why not the stock vh? I have my NA flywheel on and the starter engages fine. Just trying to see why or what problems to look for.

Also I am using a Collins adapter plate which is fairly thick, worried i might have problems with the output shaft engaging.

thanks

Because the snout of the stock starter interferes with transmission.. The starter isn't in exactly the same spot.. Just looking at the collins adapter it appears it's designed to use the Z32 starter.

BTW- I sell an adapter that doesn't require any thick spacers and uses all stock hardware.. :)

Okay I got you, that makes sense, I will try and mate them this weekend. I bought my plate like 3 years ago. Been sitting on pretty much everything for a while, have had my clutch pedal mounted for about 2 years lol. I think with the spacing of the collins piece I might be close enough to grind the bell housing out to fit, hopefully. I will find out this weekend and keep posting. Thank you for some definitive info, searching for this swap leads in many different directions. Also I believe we have briefly met some ten years ago, your from somewhere north of me in indiana iirc. I am in Gas City, about an hour north of Indy.

Managed to mate the bell housing to the engine, with a couple of small cuts with the deathwheel. will be putting the trans back together soon, and slightly enlarge the mount holes on the trans.

will have to make a dust cover for the z32 starter hole/ over the vh starter.

I went with using the stock starter. It takes a bit of work, but you can avoid cutting into the block. The adapter plate, flywheel and bellhousing aren't so lucky.

My approach
