ok, short story. Have a 94-98 sr20det blacktop s13, with a type x 96-98 power fc that was repinned for my car, and up till now car was running like a champ. drive my car to the shop to get a z32 maf sensor that the owner owned and had them install.change the sensor to vg30 for the z32 maf base map, and car runs similar to major boost leak.to make it to work, change it back to the ps13 maf setting, and car runs somewhat ok, just a lot of smoke and rough idle. other than that, pulled normal and all. after work, drive to friends house to check maf sensor and re initialize. maf is a silver label with n62 at end of serial (should be true z32). leave car for about 30 min initializing on the vg30 setting. shut off, started back up in 5 min. and car seems fine. get 15 seconds down the road, and problem returns. again have to change back to the ps13 setting to make it home. car dies on me about 7 times on the way back. when i let off the gas, is usually when it dies, even after not even revving over about 2 grand. this morning, i wake up and remove filter from maf, checking for turbulance. car seems to run almost the exact same. stretch the intake hose to check kinks, and still problem exists. unplug maf while car is running, and it clears up for about 10 seconds and then dies. plug maf back in, car runs for about 15 seconds, and dies. try once again to reinitialize, but car dies while doing so.

if any of you guys can help me that would be awesome. plan to take car to the shop tomorrow, but its about a 15 min drive and im not sure the car will make it. thanks for the help

if the stock maf works perfect, and your "Z32" maf does NOT, even when selected VG30 in the PFC, then most likely the maf is bad/incorrect.

think about it: if all the wiring is good, and the PFC is good, and the stock maf is good, then everything works good.

If the only thing you change is the maf, and everything else is known to be good, then either the maf is bad, or you fried something in the process, which can easily be diagnosed by reinstalling the original maf.

Only other thing is intake plumbing. perhaps you have a leaky inlet tube, or a turbulent location for the maf. these factors can greatly influence your situation
