I have searched about all I can take and I have just two questions-

1) I recently installed the Z32 LSD in my '89 240sx with the J30 axles-but what kind of bolts do I use for mounting the front of the diff? I used the OEM 300zx bolts, but the diff's bushings came loose and the front of the diff slid past the bolts, as the 300zx bolts don't have washers and just grab the bushing. Should I have used the 300zx crossmember, or the 240sx bolts ( I did try these but they seemed too short, and had a lock washer and a regular washer that the 300zx hardware didn't have)? What exactly is supposed to be used for mounting the front of this thing?

2) The diff clanks when I shift in the low gears, eben when I try to shift easy. Just to verify, does this mean that the bushings are bad?

Any help is much appreciated.

Can anyone out there please give me some feedback on this situation. Every forum only has vague descriptions and no real itemizing of the hardware that is required for the LSD swap. I just want to know if I have done this right, as I don't want the diff coming out again on me...

When I did this I took the two bolts that held the 240 diff up to a hardware store and found longer bolts that had the same thread pitch and whatnot. I got some heavy duty washers (1/4" thick) to put between the head of the bolt and the z32 differential and it worked great no problem. I don't know the exact length of the bolt though I just guessed and checked till I got it right. Hope that helped you out a bit!

When you said the "front" of the lsd, do you mean the two bolts that mount from the bottom? If it is, I used the J30 bolts (I got the full set of J30 vlsd and axles and all the bolts). The 240sx bolts are too short and I have to go back to the shop and find the bolts in the dirt. But I found it and it works.

I would like somebody to answer the second question as well.

Yeah I would like to hear the second question answered too... I sometime get a clunk but I think it has something to do with my clutch being messed up.

Thanks for the replys guys, as this has been some help. I used the 300zx bolts and got enough thread to hold it in, and used some heavy duty grade 8 washers.

When the diff slid past the bolts, I was shifting from 5th to 2nd, so there was a good deal of torque applied to it then. I had been driving it around for about 3 weeks before it finally happened. I am seriously considering getting the Energy Diff bushing set (about $30) and seeing if this doesn't solve my clanking problem. I'll repost when I get this done.

Thanks again to all!

Well I ordered the polyurethane diff bushings from Summit and they are on back order until the 25th of Nov. I'll repost then if they solve the clanking problem or at least dasmpen it. Being PU, I know that it probably wont help too much, but they need to be changed anyway. For those insterested, stay tuned... And anyone who can help with this please do.

are you using the ring and pinions that were originally mating, or are you using the Z32 ring gear with the 240sx pinion? i know this causes whining from the differential, but im not sure about clanking

I know it is said 'better late than never' but s***... 4 years?! LAWL But I am finally replying to my own question, namely #2. I replaced the bushings with some Energy Polyurethane bushings and the clanking went away! Hope this helps someone. I got the bushings from Summit Racing for about $20.
