Hello everyone.

I'm in the process of re-rebuilding my top end on my 90 NA 5 speed.

I had a set of auto turbo heads rebuilt (knew a guy who had a pair laying around) and I'm noticing there's a difference in lifters from these heads to my originals.

I've searched but found no info in terms of these apparently early style lifters? My original lifters appear to be shorter than the turbo ones. Is there a functional difference?

I've never opened any up to check and never had to research, first time I'm hearing of a difference, hopefully someone with knowledge can chime in.

Hopefully! I'm a little confused by the large difference in heights mostly. I'm using my original manual cams on these heads.

I hate to awaken a old /dead thread but ...did anyone else figure this out?

Could simply be a vendor difference. OEMs vary stuff like that all day long. As long as the specifics of the bump height are the same then it's the same part to you. Maybe they wanted to use another spring or retainer type and needed a little more clearance at the retainer, who knows? Maybe a bit more oil splash opening to the valve tip, they wore too quick?

All that matters is that the part works for you.

The NA/TT lifters are supposed to be the same afaik. Being that they are hydraulic lifters, I am not sure a discrepancy between "shim" sizes would make a difference. The TT lifters look stock. The NA ones are perhaps solid or aftermarket as suggested?

figured it out at least i think i did....the original lifters he shows are the S1 rb lifters (or atleast s1 time frame in my case) .....and have to have certain kinda tool to remove the cap, unlike the slam method of the tt lifters......either way my question was answered when i took mine apart and did some checking.....a couple videos later come to find out that the s1 lifters are not meant for rebuild like the na/tt lifters newer then 91 i do believe i could be wrong .

stole some z32 lifters from one of my junk vg30 and put them in the rb with no issues so far.
