im fixing an ignition problem for my friend and needed to know if the any year J30s or Maximas' would have the same ignitor and harness (assuming that they have VG30DEs). her car is a 1992 Z32 NA. apparently, her car dies intermittently and she needs to wiggle her harness to get it to work again. im guessing that the connection to her ignitor and her harness are bad. so i was going to go to yard to match the part number and pull the part for her. the problem occurs on the passenger side of the vehicle.

the part numbers i came across were refferenced from courtesy nissan. its 22020-00Z32. can anybody at least tell me if i can take the same ignitor and harness from another car?

Not sure if you're talking about the PTU (controls the coil packs firing) or the coil packs (mount on top of each spark plug) themselves. Can you be a little more descriptive on where the part is or what wires were being wiggled? saying "passenger side" is a little vauge.

the chip that commands the coil packs to fire.

http://www.courtesyparts.com/M...97E05

on the link, theres a diagram. its the item labeled "22020N" to the right of the highlighted coil pack (in red).

thats the part i need. so i was wondering if i could go to the junkyard and just pull one off of a J30 or Maxima, or maybe even a Q45.

That would be the PTU...is this what it looks like?

I know it works on both VG30DE and VG30DETT. Not sure abou the other variations of VG30's, but I don't see why not as long as the connectors are the same.

Just FYI, there was a recall on the Z cars back in the day (99 I think) for faulty PTU's. If hers wasn't replaced or fixed under that recall she might be able to get it done for free. There will be a silver sticker on the underside of the hood if it has been done (providing the sticker is still there) or you could call your local Nissan dealer and have them check the VIN to see if its been done. A friend of mine bought a 90 TT last year that never had it replaced and the dealer took care of it for him no problem.

If it's silver then it's the old style, if it's black it's the newer one.

this we know. Haha, we are trying to find out which model yours is. The recall may have been done by the previous owner, but some were recalled in the beginning and only got the SAME faulty PTU installed as the recall. The rest are the black one as seen above. There is an adapter harness as well on the later recalled units...so maybe look for any extra connectors on that harness.
