I was driving home from work yesterday and a convertible Z32 passed by going the opposite direction. I had never seen a convertible Z32 before. I almost turned around to follow him and get a closer look at the car, but we were both doing about 60 going in opposite directions. Wish I could have gotten a picture of it. Very beautiful car. But the Z32 is one of my ten best looking cars of all time.

How long did they make the Z32 in a vert? Like I said, I had never seen one before. Was is it a limited production run for a year or two? Or was this more than likely a custom job?

I think I like the Hard Top 300zx better than the Drop Top. But the T-Bar is the best.

T-Top > Hard Top > Drop Top

I also like the longer 2+2 version.

My dream z32 would be a 2+2 T-Top (TT swap of course ).

You don't have to be so specific, Dane - all 2+2s had t-tops Also, all the slicktops were NA cars w/ manual transmissions. As you probably know, the only Z32 available in Britain and some other parts of Europe was a 2+2 TT, and the 75 IMSA/ GTP car driven by Steve Millen was originally based on a 2 seater chassis, but was then changed to a 2+2 chassis design to move the gas tank in front of the rear wheels (just one little tidbit I learned from Steve when I got to talk with him in depther during the Stillen tour during ZCON this summer).

Yeah I wanted a 2+2 TT slicktop for a while, but now that I have a slicktop(350z) I really miss the T-tops. I do think the longer 2+2 looks better. For some reason the 2 seaters look stubby to me. Not that I would turn one down or anything. LOL

After I looked and looked for a good low mile 300zxTT w/o mods and had very little luck, I now think that getting a TT w/ a bad motor and swapping a built/upgraded motor would be a good idea. Of course this would require a large chunk of cash.

You are a very lucky man to be able to chill with Steve like that. That alone made the trip to the west coast worth it!

The Z32 is a great car.. If you want to build one you can find shells/bodies with blown engines for around 3K,, engine cost JDM $2000 plus a few parts, hoses, oil pump etc. That's a twinturbo too. Changing a convertible/slicktop/2+2 requires a clip cost around $2500 plus a few parts.. I've helped and done most of these. You also don't have to do a build on the engine unless your looking at going over 450-500 hp. In that case you need a set of good forged pistons to go with other internals upgrade injectors, ungrade tubors now your in the money. BTY that's running around 15-17 psi on stock internals for the 450hp.

Quite a few convertible Z32's running around by me. Not really a fan of how they look. I definately have to vote for the 2 seater t-top as the 2+2's look too long and kinda goofy IMO.

I've always been a fan of convertibles. With the Z, however, I feel the convirtible (both Z32 and Z33) eliminates one of the lines that makes the Z so sexy. The line of the roof/rear window as it meets the trunk and sort of levels out. It's a defining line, carried over very faithfully between the Z32 and Z33. I think the soft top on the Z33 does more damage to the looks of that car than the soft top on the Z32. I'd rather have a slicktop or a T-top. Nothing like cruising on a hot summer day with the T tops in the trunk.
