My Hawk pads, my 240->300 lines are here, rebuild kit is on the way. I was looking for replacement pistons as mine are starting to wear off a bit. If anyone has a place for the pistons that would be great. If not then my alternatvive(which may be my best bet) would be get a machine shop to duplicate the old ones. Btw if it matters they are the 26mm's

What do you mean by "starting to wear off a bit"? New rubber seals that go to the middle of cylinders should be good enough.

I have some used pistons in good shape. Do you want them?

I think he's talking about the pistons inside the caliper is wearing off. How's is it wearing off? Is there any scratches or any broken pieces?

The pistons are chrome plated. Clean them up as much as you can. Use brake clean all over them. You can use an sos or brillo pad to clean the outside of the piston to remove any debris.

The only time you need to replace steel pistons is when the chrome on the outside of the piston is flaking or pitted. If there is rust at the top of the piston it is ok as long as it is not in the seal area.

If no pitts or flaking save your money, they are fine.

Put the seals back in the casting and lube the pistons with brake fluid before pushing them in. If done properly you should be able to squeeze them in with your hands and fingers. Add the dust boot and boot retaining rings and your good to go.

I think so. Front one is okay, but rear one is like $180 each something like that.

the pistons should be fine no matter how old or used the caliper is. but if you really want to replace them i know Nissan sells them for like $45 each and last time i check advance auto could get them for $40 each . there is no difference in the piston from 26mm or 30mm same bore size for all. you could also check Mitsubishi for the 92+ 3000gt twin turbo, dodge for the 92+ stealth r/t or Subaru for the 05-06 WRX they all have the same piston size and rebuild kits i have the Subaru kit on my front and Mitsubishi on the rears

Awsome. Got the exact answer's i was looking for.

They look a little rough with the rust inside the piston but from what everyone said, as long as its not in the seal/boot area i should be fine.

In this case, be watching out for my Z brake swap in the next few weeks.

Oh!! Inside... Yes, outside where it touch the seal really matter. If you are anal, you can sand blast inside of pistons. Or use a Dremel to clean it up like I did.

when i did mine they had rust all in the inside and i just filled it with brake cleaner for 5 hours or something like that and then poured that out and hit it with the dremel. came out as clean as the seal side

The rust on the inside is only cosmetic. Once the pads are on you will never see it.

Help me please!!!I picked up a set of 1990 300ZX 26mm calipers to fit my 95 240 and Im now looking for rotors. Apparently there's 2 options for that year. 2/1989-6/1990 and after 7/1990. Any idea how I can figure that out which ones I have before I buy the rotors? You've done the swap. Talk to me....Surf.
