I searched Chet

I was in the process with my friends taking the agx/suspension tech combo off my dead white coupe and putting them on my red coupe, when my bf pointed out that the front passenger wheel's hub (white car) was making a lot of noise when he spinned it. Is this possibly from the Z brakes? The car had 114k when it died, and it had the Z brakes for about a year and a half as well. Apparently there are cast iron and aluminum calipers? I don't know which kind I have since I received the calipers from Paul Souder a long time ago from his S14, and they've been repainted.

Chris -

If they're light, they're not iron. Pretty easy to tell.

I'd attribute it more to age than the brakes, as the brakes exert NO stress on the hub.

Several 240sx's I've worked on have had a bad front bearing, including my own car...

SDrag:

#1 Check your IM for cripes sake!

#2: I seriosuly doubt the caliper would cause enough hub stress to do any damage to the hub, it doesn't ahve enough leverage on it, to be honest....now inputs from a mssaive negative offset wheel on the other hand....*sighs*

#3 I replaced one front and one rear hub/bearing on ym S13 because of mileage and abuse from myself....nbot a big issue really

#4...out of points to make....see you online lata!

1. Hahahaa. NO! Seriously i have a bad habit of leaving my screename online and being 20mi away from the house

2. Well, my 16's are decent enough i think 16lbs a piece and (+32 front,+38 rear) which will never be going on cause i'm too poor for tires

3. I was leaning more to the age being the biggest factor. So my suspicions were correct.

AZ: the calipers don't seem that 'light' to me but they're not outrageous (the rotors on the other hand--oof!!) and i have a job where i haul out 50-60lb bags of horse food to people's cars so i don't think its because i'm a weenie. Oh, and can you stilll get deals on Hawk HPS pads? I'll need some sooner-or-later.

BTW, Chet I got my suspension on finally!! I'll have to send some updated pics. Only thing left to do is take off the Tein rods and replace the tension rods with some SPL units and i'm set.

Chris - post a pic of the caliper and I can tell you if it's aluminum or iron.

There aer subtle differences in the castings.

The aluminum calipers will have a bunch of little cooling fins around where it says "Nissan".

The iron ones will be smooth in that area.

Yeah.. those are 26mm aluminum.

The 26mm ones will clear certain castings of the stock s13 alloys.

Wouldn't having high negative camber in the rear put more stress on the CV joint than the hub bearing?

Oh yess you can. It's a tight fit too, i can't even slide my pinky finger between the spoke and the caliper (won't clear 93 alloys cause the inner casting is different) Anyway, i'm glad i got aluminum's my bf got an aluminum pair off of his TT clip and his Z32 (93) which is a n/a chassis (with a vg30dett) has the iron calipers.. hahahaha.

Here's a blurry pic (need to get a tripod for dusk shots) but you can see my sweet home depot lip, and the drop.
