I know there are 3 generation of z32 brakes from searching

28mm aluminum30mm aluminum30mm cast iron

is there any benefit of iron over aluminum? what about the 2mm thicker rotor?

Meh, it wont make too much of a difference on a lightly tracked 2600lb car.

But, if there is a choice, get the 30mm Aluminums.A) The brake rotors are cheaper for some reason, 30$per for 30mms opposed to 70$ for 26mms. (at least here)

B)You wont need the heat capacity from the Irons so the aluminums would be optimal since they are lighter.

C) You could upgrade to the 350Z rotor if it ever went from a lightly tracked car to a track slut.

well if you're a track slut you could also upgrade to the 350Z's Brembo calipers. they bolt on

EDIT: with the 350Z track rotors of course. but SPL sells a kit to adapt 30mm 300ZX calipers to 350Z track rotors on S13/S14. if you're still 4-lug you'll have to redrill to 4-lug. and they're 12.3" in diameter, for the record, so 17" minimum i'm rather sure. 350Z lower models and G35 w/o sport package have big brakes that fit under 16's and i plan to sport them sometime next year.

I thought they were 26mm? I could be wrong, it's been a while since I researched the Z brake swap.

Anyway, I've got the smaller (26/28mm) aluminum calipers. I did this simply because I bought a junk 300ZX to steal parts off of and that's what it had on it. BUT I do a lot of autoX's and have done consecutive 100mph+ to 0 stops and they've never faded on me. I'm also using Brembo X-drilled and slotted rotors in combination with KVR Carbon Kevlar pads.

It's a great combo for me and I have no intention of changing it.

yep most people who have them will tell you the 26mm rotors aren't bad at all since they were designed for a 3300lb car with 220hp and are being put on a 2700lb car. and besides, they clear a lot more wheels than the 30mm calipers do. also there is less rotational inertia, which will make your car faster (though not by much!), and less unsprung weight (not by much, again).
