W did the same thing except we used the stock shocks. I took a cut off wheel and cut off the bottom of the round end of the shock, but left enough about the size of a quarter. Then I cut some stock from a piece of rectangle stock, drilled a hole for the shock bolt and welded it on to the remaining steel. I wrapped the shock in a wet towel to keep it cool and took my time welding it so it wouldn't over heat

lol that's quite a dump. I find it to be aesthetically superior to gutting the inside or your car, especially if it's a daily driver. And depending on how crazy you go pulling stuff out, it's likely nominally supierior as well. And if you're really crazy you'll just do both!

What about the importance of the washer pictured below? Isn't it needed since the z32 upright is aluminium?

According to this guy...

Is this some type of special washer, or would any washer do?

My uprights had the 5 lug hubs attached to them, which I used, so I had those washers even when I used the uprights with 4 lug and then eventually swapped to 5 lug. I always used said washers. They do not appear to be special, just a washer. Hope that helps.

It's 8lbs per corner. 16 lbs of unspring weight is huge. it's worth every bit of hassle to run z32 uprights.

not only do you drop big weights near the corners, you make it easier for the suspension to do it's job.

everyone serious about tracking their car should be doing this.

There is no sense doing this unless you just do a q45 rear swap IMO.

With the q45 you get bullet proof axles, aluminum uprights, and a VLSD. (you need to get a 300zx turbo axle though for the other side)
