Hey guys,

I picked up a pair of 4 pot front brake calipers made for a 300ZX (perhaps a 94) for super cheap (ones that say SUMITOMO on the side), I read about how to retrofit these to the S14 chassis involving cutting the heat shield yada yada.....

but if I wanna slap them onto the Q is it a direct bolt-on affair? I know there won't be much gain from it but my pads and rotors are shot I might as well go ahead and do this while it all comes apart.

I cross checked the rotors of a Z and a Q they are both 11.5" rotors yet they have different part numbers for some reason.... But will the caliper bolt up to the Q knuckles using stock rotors? From all the blow-up diagrams online there is no significant difference between the Z susp and the Q susp so I was hoping they'd have the exact same upright??

Anyone else know about it?

yes, except in my situation the 4 pot calipers were had for less than core of a rebuilt 2 pot so kind of what the hell....

They are bolt on you just have to trim the heat shields a little bit. The Q rotors are 28mm thick, and the Z32 are 30mm.. I am assuming those are the twin turbo ones and not the 26mm N/A ones?

I don't know where they came from the shop owner that passed them down to me had no idea about the specifics either....Anyway here are the brakes fitted.

I tried to fit the OEM BBS wheels with 7mm spacer but they won't clear. With these I only barely cleared with the spacer on.... I think next up is a set of more aggressive offset wheels for this car.

I think they do give me a bit better brake modulation upon initial pedal touch - compared to what I had before. I had 16 year old OE calipers and rotors that resembled thick vinyl discs so the upgrade might, in fact, make no difference to the stopping performance....But like I said, it's just a cheap fix that I can't pass on. I like how the brake responds sharply to my input now though.

I would think if anything the Q calipers should respond faster due to being a 2 piston versus a 4 piston.

nah the Q calipers had humongous pistons versus the 4 tiny ones on the Z calipers.

Plus being a non-floating type it's just that much more responsive. Aluminum calipers helped drop unsprung rate quite a bit too....too bad I can't keep the stock BBS on...
