I live out in cali and i think i might need a head gasket replacement... Had two questions

One is it possible for both sides to have a blown head gasket at the sametime cause i thought each tail pipe was connected to each head and i have white smoke coming out of both. So blown head gasket...

How much would it usually cost for a complete head job..?

thanks for the help

well, about the smoke coming out of both sides of the exhaust, the 300zx stock exhaust does meet at one spot and the splits again, so it could only be one head blown, but if you were going to change one, it would probably be safe to change both at the same time, considering how much stuff has to be removed for the job, and you probably don't want to do the job twice, also make sure you get the heads resurfaced, otherwise you would have wasted your time and money, but about price, it will be a hefty one unless you do it yourself, you may even consider a engine swap.

ok well thanks.... the only problem i have with an engine swap is that i wont know for sure if the engine works or not... cause its pulled out and some people arent the most honest in this world so if i did that i might as replace the head gaskt to right??? but i just replaced the head gaskets on my engine to not long ago but when we changed them out we didnt get it resurefaced (stupidly) and so everything else on the engine is pretty much new and replaced so im kinda in a hard spot thanks for the imput

Yeah, it seems so, however if you are interested in an engine swap I can recommend http://www.venus-auto.com, this is where sport compact car got their sr20det from, and http://www.naganojapanese.com this is where I got my rb20det from, although not done with the swap, so I can not personally guarantee it is flawless, but it sure does look to be in excellent condition.

No, not likely, if the head gaskets were blown compression would go down, also, check and see if there is any water in the oil, just look at the dipstick, if there is what looks like a white substance at the bottom of it then the head gasket is blown

well im getting the tool to check the compression but as for water in the oil i didnt see any in the dip stick.. but i disconnectted the exhasut system from the headers and white smoke is coming out of the driver side header so i think its a blown head gasket... ill post to let you know what the compression is later today but its looking like the head gasket.. thanks jon
