I'm positive that this has been posted before, but I'd like to get an answer specific to my problem; here we go:
I bought the car a few days ago(not running) as a project, something to pass the time, but as most things I've become completely obsessed with making this car run. According to the previous owner and mechanic who had been working on it for him, the z, a 1986 300zx automatic non turbo, fired momentarily before dying. Upon hearing this my first thought was to replace the fuel pump, however this was without seeing the car. Brought it home and I've been working on it non stop, here are the facts.
Ecu throws code 11(crank angle sensor)
Replaced old dizzy with a remanufactured one
All spark plugs and wire replaced
Coil wire replaced
New distributor rotor
New battery
Fuel pump OK
When I crank the motor I can hear the car grumble and putter like it wants to start, but I don't believe I'm getting spark and I know these plugs are good. Code is still CAS, even after replacing the entire distributor/rotor. Distributor Cap was cracked minor(not all the way through, and not changing the shape of it) so I thought it would be ok. My next step will be to replace the wiring harness for the dizzy, because it is factory and the last thing it can think of to make this car start.
If it helps you guys at all, the mileage is just under 140k, and far less than my 2004 DD.
If any of you all are in the Kentuckiana area and are familiar with these models, or can help from behind your computer I'd really appreciate it,
Thank you,
T.
